Anyone who missed Roxy's performance last year might be lucky to catch it here. Also, by accident I recorded a profile of Kanye West (again on Channel 4) a few weeks back and our very own lovely Rosie Wetters was directing Wired Strings, giving Kanye a run for his money as regards arrangements etc (Though if I'm honest, she could've been talking nuclear physics). I'm sure it'll be repeated again at some point. Have a great weekend, Andew ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 27 May 2006 08:39:11 EDT From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] What if? Borrowing from the classic Marvel Comics idea, if you could change one thing in Roxy Music/ Bryan Ferry's career what would it be? Obviously Eno staying in the band and Roxy not splitting up would be popular choices but what other avenues and alternate histories might you push towards? My own suggestion takes us back to 1985... Ferry put on a better show at Live Aid, with no technical hitches, performing a powerhouse set comprising of Love is the Drug, This is Tomorrow, Slave to Love and Let's Stick Together . The crowd lap it up, reminded of what Ferry is capable at his best and with what money they have after generously donating to the cause, rush out to buy Boys and Girls (there is no greatest hits package on the market at this point - oh how they have made up for that since! - - it's a year until the excellent Streetlife 'best of' is released). With his confidence unknocked (let's not forget that in our universe he was one of the only artists not to reap any commercial benefit from the event) Ferry sets about recording Bete Noire. It's a huge success, and Kiss And Tell in particular becomes a huge hit worldwide, thanks in part to a guest rap by a young chap called Ice Cube. He also joins forces with John Barry to sing the title song to the James Bond movie 'The Living Daylights.' Need I tell you that the song is a worldwide smash and a US number one? No, thought not. A string of hits from albums such as Horoscope, Alphaville and a duets album which featured the likes of Sinead O'Conner, Suede, Prince, David Bowie, Radiohead, Lou Reed and Bjork (on a stunning version of A Waste Land/Windswept orchestrated by Angelo Badlamenti) run through the 1990's until, at the end of the decade the offer is made to reform Roxy Music. Intrigued by the prospect Ferry signs the contract...... Over to you... J n/p Bryan Ferry feat. Ice Cube 'Kiss and Tell' ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V11 #126 ***************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
