By the same argument you could ask whom ENO has influenced? (Not including those he has worked with). I don't really follow ENO so I don't know the answer to that question; except I can't remember any recent/ young artists (if that's what you mean) quoting ENO as an influence in interviews. But then I don't really look out for his mention, though through years of training I can spot a Ferry reference at thirty metres. Maybe that's true for you and ENO? And should the success of an artist be measured by his influence anyway? I think some of BF's writing has been great post Live Aid, there's just not much of it. Maybe it's just a question of taste. Just because it's not to yours, it doesn't mean to say it's not any good. And conversley, just because ENO's work is to your taste, it doesn't mean to say it is any good. Although, off the top of my head, I would say that Bryan's cover versions on ATGB have been very influential on everyone from George Michael to the Pop Idol lot through to Rod Stewart. And if Thom Yorke hasn't heard Mamouna a few times I'd be quite amazed. Back in the early days (about 1994) I purchased a single by fey rockers Suede. One of the tracks was the opening song from the album, entitled 'Introducing the Band' remixed from it's 2 minute original length to a whopping 12 minute ambient version and retitled 'Eno's Introducing the Band.' Perhaps we should call him Brian Ego from now on? It was stuffing awful. However, it influenced me to present it to a friend who I didn't really like as a birthday gift. I never saw him, or the cd ever again and am now very happy. They are developing a series of ads to promote the charity's initiative of linking with eBay to auction various celebrity lots. Well knock me down with a feather when one of the "wish list" suggestions has been agreed to by the celeb in question. Yes - Elizabeth Hurley has agreed to go shopping with the winning bidder. Oh yes, and there will be a lot to win a chance to sing with Mr F. I wonder if he'd agree to go shopping instead (although, I think Jonathan has already done this by default and Reecey too if you count being in a shop together)? Details aren't up at the NSPCC site yet, but keep your eyes (and ears) peeled. I sooooo wanted to love Music For Airports. Have I ever played it all the way through? Or beyond track 2? (Certainly influenced elevator manufacturers.) It a fabulous con-trick mopped up by lazy hacks and junior common rooms. And you know what's really funny? Eno would agree. Compare and contrast with the derided post-Avalon Ferry output. The sweeping soundscapes of Windswept, the bravura funk of Spell, the pungent aromas of Mamouna, the tender breathlessness of Fallin In Love Again. Who does Bryan need to influence? How many times is a man expected to change the course of popular culture in one lifetime? Let him enjoy his trees and his pretty girlfriend. Let him hang out with his handsome charming sons. Let him write and perform the new album that he's kindly allowed his old friends to play on... Now I see Eno's whinging about the English class system. Remember when Michael Caine left Britain complaining about the English class system, only to return 5 years later complaining, without irony, that Americans had no class! Get over it domehead. There'll always be some thick journo knocking on your door to thank you for forming and reforming Roxy Music. Jocelyn I heard some of the more progressive proposals at United for this worthy cause were shoplifting with Wayne Rooney and swinging with George Michael? Ferry's "People" indicate that he is likely to make a decision sometime during late 2008 / early 2009,depending upon commitments to promoting his much anticipated Motivation Tour.
