Saw/heard Ms Perrin last night playing a sublime set of self-composed music  
at London's Purcell Room in the South Bank complex.
 
The music and playing is exquisite, accompanied from time to time by films  
of still images collaged together. Altogether wonderful.
 
Sorry if any Avalonians attended purely to hear a performance of the Brian  
Eno composition on the Perpetual Motion CD. This was significantly the only  
track NOT played. Asked afterwards, Lola said the night was intended as a launch 
 of herself as composer and so the track would not have been appropriate 
within  the two hour programme.
 
Also, Avalonians may wish to note that the new album has the Perpetual  
Motion suite of 7 tracks re-recorded but omitting the Eno composition. And  each 
track now has a title: Whole Numbers; Perpetual Motion; Unravelling; Pulse;  
Island; Ripple; Butterflies.
 
But Lola is a very talented composer/musician in her own right. And  
delightfully quirky. One piece played last night is called Weather Girls, but no  sign 
of Izora Rhodes or Martha Wash to be found. Instead, she introduced the  
piece saying she had written the music to answer the question: If weather girls  
still pointed at maps but did not talk about the weather, what would they be  
saying?
 
She also entertained the audience by saying she has only recently overcome  
nervousness about making stage announcements. She performed in Germany last 
year  and caught a shoe in the workings of the piano and needed to announce that 
she  had lost her shoe in the piano and would soon return (having only played 
one  song so far) wearing snow boots.
 
Wonderful evening (although the padded seats do get a little uncomfortable  
after a while).
 
Her new album Fragile Light contains works for solo piano and for six  
pianos. Recommended - even if the last 7 tracks will seem very familiar to those  
with Perpetual Motion already.
