Was also pleased by the line-up given that in advance only Justin Hayward (looking incredible for a man of around 60) and Jeff himself were advertised by name. So no David Essex or Phil Lynott and in their places, Alexis James and Russell Watson (master of over acting and being rubbish). With them Ms Tara Blaise and Chris Thompson (Davy's On The Road Again, Blinded By The Light, etc). And there to the left of stage as one looked at it were the Black Smoke Band (as they are called for this performance) featuring Chris Spedding, Colin Good AND Ms Julia Thornton. Chris got to do all the Heat Ray licks that once belonged to Joe Partidge and the musicians were all in Victorian garb. CS donned a brocade gypsy waistcoat over a white shirt and black trousers, fashionata buffs. Chris also got to get down with Herbie Flowers who was in great form. Ant McPartlin was in the front row, presumably finding out what all the fuss was about given that he wasn't yet born when the album was released. Bryan Ferry, also looking ridiuclously good for a man about 60, was there too to cheer them on and joined in on standing ovation at the end (a rather forced event, it should be said, as a vaguely robotic voice instructed the audience to "show your appreciation to the sung thoughts of the journalist, Mr Justin Hayward...etc etc"). Few albums get treated with this much reverence...wonder if Bryan fancies recreating FYP in its entirety? If Eno were to turn up to wish them luck, Ferry could maybe claim the same line-up.
