Soetemann" Subject: [AVALON] Cale / Roxy I'm not sure as to whether I have posted this before (or someone else): Did YOU ever notice a striking resemblance between the intros of Roxy's "The Main Thing" and Cale's "Villa Albani"? I can't imagine it's just by accident (the Cale track dates from 84). At a press conference at the Esplanade Regent Hotel he once again mentioned Brian Eno's involvement in a project Eno says he has no involvement in. Someone who can work with both Bri/yans? Must qualify as a Roxy member in the making... Leo Abrahams ( No 10 Bar, Golborne Rd) I've seen Leo play with Ed Harcourt several times in the past. He's a sweetie. A very, very talented sweetie in fact who'se worked with tons of people - mainly through word of mouth as quality musicianship speaks louder than any hype or bullshit. Leo's got an instrumentals album out called 'Honeytrap.' Woman of the world that I am, I totally misinterpreted the meaning of the title and was genuinely suprised at the true meaning of the word. Do you know what it means? I don't traditionally go for this kind of thing but listened to clips, and found it grew on me, bought it and my fingers tend to reach for it during indulgent bathtimes. But it's not all pretty chillout tracks as you might assume, for example 'Slippery Jack' is funky and strident, and really comes to life played live. I saw him play in Whitechapel, and he went down so well the audience insisted on an encore. He'd run out of stuff to play, so played 'Slippery Jack' again! Last week he played at the No 10 bar, exhausted after 3 sleepless nights and time spent working with Bryan Ferry - and still pulled off a great show. The beauty of an instrumental set is that your mind can create its own pictures of the sound as you're listening. The images can be the lyrics. I say go see Leo play, enjoy the music and as an added bonus - he's dead charming to boot. Alternatively, Ferry could have been winding up Martin Stockman.
