Hey, this is all tongue-in-cheek stuff anyhow! (Needle-in-groove, maybe?) Your nomination of album "Another Time, Another Place" as cool certainly warrants a great deal of merit. After all, those cover photos marked the emergence of Bryan Ferry's sartorial elegance. The overall feel of that album however lacks natural coolness in my thermal sensors. My mother may have agreed with you, but my sisters certainly didn't. Someone else suggested "Bride Stripped Bare" - for me, far too angst-heavy and dark. May I suggest "In Your Mind" as a contender? For once BF seemed to be having fun with his music (all self-penned songs to boot) & THAT cover! Isn't it COOL that almost 30 years on some modern heart-throb chose to unashamedly plagiarise it (sans the shades)? COOL ?? OK, you have to counterbalance that with the sublime 'The 'In' Crowd', the graceful 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' and of course the stellar title track, but still and all... Sheesh ! (see below) But I must ask-- who would read a magazine for instructions in how to be cool? Service manuals are of no use, to my way of thinking. I am either hep, happening, groovy, bitchin', dope or the cat's pajamas (or not), by other means than some lifestyle periodical. What is hip? Tell me, tell me, if you think you know. Hipness is, what it is! Sometimes hipness is, what it ain't. But remember, what's hip today, might become passe. However, the one accouterment of HIP which I MUST HAVE, The Perfumed Gurgle, eludes me. Can anyone help?
