It bears the name 'Taking Tiger Mountain (By Strategy)' and sports on its cover a painting (oddly familiar, even though I've never seen it before) of a (heavily made-up) Chinese Red Guard in heroic pose with drawn pistol and swept back cape. It turns out this Doug Hilsinger is a big fan of Eno and decided to make his own version of the album from start to finish. In itself no big deal perhaps, but no less an authority than the effervescent one himself has endorsed the recording and written a sleeve note for the CD. Intrigued, I purchased a copy (from Amazon) and have been listening to it for a while now. OK, it lacks a little professional polish and punch, but it IS great fun, especially where it deviates from the expected ('The Fat Lady of Limbourg' and 'Third Uncle' are both pleasingly different from their originals). To have a look for yourself (and listen to samples) visit : http://www.saucefaucet.com/tiger.html Now, about that remake of 'Listen Now !' for stylophone and musical saw ensemble ... Not quite all... There was a joke going around in the 1980s: The IRA has captured Margaret Thatcher, Ian Paisley and Daniel O'Donnell, but they've only got two bullets. Who do they shoot? Answer; Daniel O'Donnell, twice, just to make sure. For some odd reason I, who never remember jokes; have never forgotten that one. And I've of course now added the Enorchestra gigs to my list of sadly missed shows of 2005 (right up there at the top alongside Kate Russo's all-too-brief stint subbing lead violin for guitar with Big Brother & The Holding Company). 21 years in San Francisco... then I pack up and leave a blinkingly 3 weeks too early. *sigh* -wfs n.p. Sorry, but artistically I have to agree with J, here. Leo may indeed be one of the most sublime and pure souls to walk the earth since Gautama Buddha but I'd rather dangle my honey-smeared family jewels in a fire-ant's nest than listen to (or worse still, watch) him caterwaul his way through 'You Make Me Feel Like Dancing' ever again ...
