Roxy themselves will have to pay for the recording. This might partly explain the sporadic time in the studio. They are probably using their own studios as well to keep down costs. Remember 'Boys and Girls' cost Bryan #500,000 pounds to record back in '85 and Mamouna a reputed $800,000 dollars. If Roxy want to make any money then they will have to spend a lot less on recording costs. Even if some of Bryan's friends chip in, surely they would want some sort of return on their investment. As for promotion. I can't see any record company spending more than the minimum, unless they offset it against future royalties. However, Roxy should get a fair bit of free publicity - Jonathan Ross radio & TV shows on BBC; Jools Holland 'Later' BBC TV. Their are a lot of Roxy fans in the press, TV and Radio, so that shouldn't be a problem - and of course a tour would help. "How do you know that people who have spent time and effort tracking down details as to how to hire his services, as well as a small fortune to get him to perform an intimate show for them, don't lap it up?" 'Small fortunes' are a relative matter. Arranging these affairs are full-time employment (just a job) for someone in a corporation, agency or government. "I know for a fact that at shows for the Bamfords, a performance at private launch at Selfridges and a show for Philip Green, he recieved rapturous applause and adulation. Sounds like he's getting his cash and a high." Private shows many be a different matter, one I have not addressed. Best wishes. I think you will find that the vast majority of wealthy people got that way partially because they are extremely careful as to how they spend small fortunes. The tightest people you can possibly meet are the very rich while those with smaller incomes are often incredibly generous. Sweeping generalisation of course, but not entirely based in fantasy... True, that's something for the British market. > Their are a lot of Roxy fans in the press, TV and Radio, so that > shouldn't be a problem - and of course a tour would help. I think that RM need a strong official web presence *months* before the release of the new album. Additionally, they really need to harness the interweb's potential. Often these days the 'taste makers' are not editors of the NME/Melody Maker/Q/Uncut print magazines, but are the MP3 bloggers (music fans who make web journals) or online review websites like Pitchfork Media/PopMatters/All Music Guide. If they're looking for large commercial exposure for the new album, Roxy Music can't just be content with a rare 'freeplay' by Jonathan Ross on BBC Radio 2. - ---joel Tired of spam? Yahoo!
