I can't bring myself to champion his acting. .................................... Not on the basis of the French soap no - I agree. Wooden useless embarrassing and pointless are just a few of the words that don't begin to do justice to how bad that was. But another time another place - he had the look and mystery required for a Bond, although saving the world would have needed to come after another fag. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 20 Jan 2006 18:54:07 -0500 From: "Tim Kendrick" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Ferry plays a "vicious queen". 'Pluto' has been out in New York for a couple of weeks, and I've seen it. Ferry is terrific in it, as 'Mister Silky String' , ( the character name in the credits), repulsive and chilling, and you do find yourself watching an actual character rather than your favourite pop singer. The James Bond idea , though, always struck me as horrible. Pop star movie careers tend to fall flat because they aren't up to starring performances as actors however good they may be as singers, and for any number of reasons to do with both commerce and ego they rarely crop up in cameos, which they may be able to pull off. The litany of naff movies starring Bowie, Madonna and Martin Stockman's beloved Sting isn't a very edifying list. I myself like Dylan's slightly blank acting style. I loved 'Masked and Annonymous,' but not everyone did. And Bjork was excellent, I thought, in 'Dancer in the Dark.' But I can't think of any other pop star movie sidesteps that worked. Perhaps soemeone else can. Anyway, Ferry in 'Pluto' really works. The rest of 'Pluto' is wonderful, too, - like all Neil Jordan's stuff it's eccentric and distinctive, dark and funny all at once. Do see it.
