As he's too shy to post here, I'm doing it for him. Richard Adams is a  
Roxy/Bowie and Iggy Pop fan, who's written a book about the latter - you'll see  
his name and a mention of the book on the back of the current 'Both Ends  
Burning' book. Some of you will know Richard from his Manzanera.com forum  postings. 
He's a fine chap, as anyone who's met him will know already. The  following 
is adapted from his email press release:
 
 
'As many of you may know I'm a big music fan. As well as hundreds and  
hundreds of records and cds I've collected dozens of  
books/biographies/discographies about my favourite artists and  bands. 

For years I've been waiting for the definitive  reference book about Iggy 
Pop. Apart from one slim volume published in 1987,  Iggy's life and work has 
never been fully catalogued. Tired of waiting I decided  to do it myself.   

Mid-February sees the release of  "The Complete Iggy Pop", written by Richard 
Adams (yes, that's me) and published  by Reynolds and Hearn.

As a fan of Iggy's for at least 25 years  I've amassed tons of information 
and decided, initially for my own benefit, to  create a definitive history of 
this legendary rock star. Once R&H became  involved, the project really got off 
the ground.

Written over the  past year in early morning stints (and some weary late 
nights too) "The Complete  Iggy Pop" is a chronological blast through Iggy's life 
and work with extensive  commentary and full details on his entire catalogue - 
all the albums, singles,  semi official releases, tours, concerts and much 
more.

It's been a  lot of fun ploughing through Iggy's entire recorded output, 
digging out long  forgotten press cuttings and reviews that had been buried in 
boxes in the attic  for years, listening to obscure b-sides, looking at old video 
footage and having  my ears rattled by tons of concert tapes (and some of 
those were really rough!).  In doing so I've tried to separate fact from fiction 
to chronicle Iggy's life  clearly and concisely. The result is the sort of 
book about Iggy that I've  always wanted to read, a book that should interest 
casual readers and the most  committed die-hard Iggy followers alike - I know 
that I have found out far more  than I thought possible about Iggy and the 
Stooges.

Amazon and  other online retailers are already stocking the book for 
pre-order. A definite  publication date has not yet been set, but latest word from R&H 
is that they  are aiming for mid-February.

Obviously with such a wide-ranging  subject and a catalogue of songs so 
extensive it has been almost impossible to  cover everything in one book. If this 
issue goes well I'm hoping that R&H  will give the go-ahead to a second 
edition, which would allow me to keep the  book up-to-date and possibly extend the 
word count. If anyone has any comments  or useful information that could assist

as a good starting  point the double cd anthology called A Million In Prizes 
issued by Virgin last  summer.  
If you want to jump straight in - you can't go far wrong  with Lust For Life, 
Raw Power, the unbeatable Fun House, or the more recent and  slightly more 
commercial Brick by Brick.'

Subject: [AVALON] Silly Satellite Radio Question...

For any of you with either Sirius or XM...

Anyone gone through a car wash with your magnetic antenna on the top of 
the car?  Did it survive OK?  I have to put my car in for a wash before 
it's eaten alive with all the salt on the roads, but don't want to 
damage the antenna - or have to reposition the bugger if I don't have 
to.  There's nothing in the manual to say whether I should remove the 
antenna module for car washing.

Oh Sirius. Isn't that the station that does some broadcasting from 
Graceland?

As for the car, I usually fill a couple of buckets of water and wash the car 
myself. Ok, it takes more time, but it can be theraputic! :)
