What a fabulous band. 'Pledge Of Allegiance' (forthcoming single for UK) deserves to be more than huge, as does 'Paper Doll' which should follow shortly afterwards. > I liked them first time I heard them, and since then discovered the Roxy and T.Rex influences that the Band have, be it in sound, images re Album / Single covers, or absolutely blatantly nicked lyrics. > I guess it would have to fall into place for me then, yes ? They are indeed a fabulous band, Pledge Of Allegiance is a classic in waiting! Although it does occasionally sound like Jason Hill has a mouthful of something whilst he's singing, and going on the lyrics, I don't want to know what he might have in his mouth! Anyway, a hugely enjoyable album, with Roxy, Bolan, Bowie, Sweet and Kinks references aplenty. And if you listen to the album on repeat, it's very confusing when it goes back to the beginning... As for old music, a bit more Roxy made it to my MP3 player at the weekend, but I'm mostly grooving to anything made before 1960, and if it's on Sun, Speciality, Blue Note or Verve, all the better!!! 2005 failed to fully ignite on the new music front (for me anyway), let's hope 2006 pulls its socks up. Over and out. At least that's what Mr. Deagle's dermatologist says. I Encourage Mr. Reecy, and all of you in the UK and the continent, to See Louis XIV, in person! IAnd...introduce yourselves after the show! They're great guys, real friendly and not at all like the Jaded, drugged-out, Misogynists that is the persona of some of their songs. Tell em you know the old guy, who comes to all their NYC shows, the one with the furry hands. Very thoughtfully, a friend when visiting my bedside brought me in a book with the title used for this e-mail, which (as you can imagine) lifted my spirits enormously... I can recommend the book as a worthy and weighty tome on the history of recorded music in album form. But I was bemused by the editorial decision to include three Roxy Music albums: Roxy Music, For Your Pleasure and Country Life. Although I lean toward the earlier material myself, it seems odd to rate three of the first four albums, while excluding the album that both Eno and Ferry seem to agree upon as the band's best (Stranded). Also, I can't see that Country Life represented an upturn in quality... I just wondered idly if anyone in Avalon land has any views on the above? "Can't let go There's some hair on my palm tonight"... it just doesn't ring true, does it? Now, I can go completely off-topic... Reecey - you may be in the minority, but rest assured that there is at least two other people in the world who can't figure out what is soooooo cool about Anthony & The Johnsons (both reside in this house). I think I'll just go drop the new Sylvian CD into the player and see what that's all about.
