Hi Martino and all, I scanned my VHS-sleeve to make an improvised DVD-label... I can print on white CD/DVDs. If you want I can mail the scan to you. (I have an old scanner, with a yellowish streak somewhere, but with all the violet hue, I didn't notice it in the PS-sleeve...) The DVD-label is in some obscure "Epson CD-label print program"-format, so unless you have the same printer it is not of much use, I think. I hope someone will take the time to construct a 'proper' CD or DVD box label... Anyone? Tara, Anton. Things that have a common quality ever quickly seek their kind. I don't feel any similarity with A's and F's voice other than the very obvious, overly documented vibrato. Anthony has the voice of a post-sob angel only just managing to hold his emotions together, but hitting every exquisite note plumb on the nail, an innocent choir boy trapped in a granny-tranny body, whereas, as I have always maintained , Ferry is an intoner, never a singer in the recognised sense - and non the less magical for it. I can't imagine Ferry getting the audience to sing a pagan composition, holding a one note chant, while he repeats "Trust your mother as you would your life", even if that mother was pearl. Or covering a busker's lament, or breathing life into Leonard Cohen. And A's version of "Candy Darling" really had you wondering why F ever went near a Velvets' ready made. Aside for Antony's wonderfully warm rapport with the audience (perhaps a neccesity given the often heart wrenching nature of his songs) there was a lovely moment when he hit a bum note and apologised to the crowd mid-song. I noticed that Antony's facial contortions seemed very Ferryish. Mind you, Ferry faces are at the forefront of my mind at present after being given a review copy of the hilarious Vic Reeves Big Night Out dvd which seems to contain a Ferry reference every other gag. I'd love to hear what viewers far, far away from the Geordie region make of it.... I know Bowie has given his endorsement to A & J's recently but having not seen our Bryan at the gig last night I assume that Ferry's blessing (given to Arcade Fire and, er, the Sugababes) is altogether more elusive than than the thumbs up from the Dame. Which is a pity really because I can't help but feel that I'd love Antony and the Johnsons having a stab at 'Just Like You' or even 'The Only Face.' Yes, certainly. Anyway, the performance last night was superb (even though "The Guests" or "All is loneliness") should not really be in Antony's repertoire, the first being better as the original (okay, most BF fans are not LC fans, but, you should not judge, as you won't have any inkling about what Lenny is about), and the second one being is of course miles better by Janis. Anybody who has not seen Antony & the Johnsons live could do worse than tune into BBC4 on Dec. 16, to see excerpts of a "secret gig" held at St. Lukes (guest Marc Almond). As people who received their discs from me already know, I took Kicki's original VHS cover and re-worked it to fit the (completely different) proportions of DVD - I also created a matching label. Unfortunately my zealous attempts to keep as much of the original picture detail as possible resulted in a graphics file that is some 6Mb in size (and that's as a JPEG...) Worse still, the label was created using a cheap DECAdry labelling kit (from W.H. Smiths) and importing the JPEG elements - this came to a truly jaw-dropping 12Mb ! So, I am currently in discussion with a fellow list member about the possibility of hosting the JPEGS (and some more manageable compressed versions) for people to download. Alternatively, I could put the JPEGS on a CD-R for people to pass round - any thoughts ? Regards, Ivor n.p. Ivor, you could use this: http://www.yousendit.com/ Put both in a zip file and mail it to anyone (you'll also be sent a copy of the link to it). Once you have the file name, post it here. You can make a zip file of up to 1GB. It will stay online for 7 days. Alternatively, if you have a Yahoo Photo Gallery, you could make it public, add the jpg's and post the link.
