I have asked, nicely, repeatedly THAT THIS BEHAVIOR CEASE. I am ashamed--ASHAMED--of what I am reading on this list. A man, a long-time list member, is clearly in trouble. And the responses he is getting from some of you astound me. Can you not possibly weigh a possible life-threatening situation against an unfinished trade? Is the collective need on the part of some so great that you need to extract your pound of flesh, one way or another, from someone who is already down? If so, great. Bless your hearts. But take it off-list immediately. There is no need for me to contact Daniel directly--others have done so and have received no response. He knows what he has left undone, believe me. Haranguing him about it and is not going to solve the problem. Neither is ENDLESSLY bashing him on a list WHERE HE IS NOT PRESENT. I am beyond disappointed that in one of the few times I have actively requested the list follows my wishes on an ADMINSTRATIVE MATTER which could possibly have LEGAL RAMIFICATIONS FOR ME--something that 1. shows respect to a fellow list member (I have given up on hoping that certain members here would ever show any respect to me) and 2. KEEPS ME OUT OF LEGAL DANGER--I am roundly ignored and my request insulted. Honestly, do you think repeatedly using the list to potentially defame someone is a good idea? Do whatever you want in private email, but please stop public behavior this now. You are all of course free to further test my patience on this subject, but I would not advise doing so in any way, shape, or form. Marlana asks Brian Eno - 'Tekitoi ?' S8^) > By the sounds of Eno you'd think he's the first to play Arabic music. Indeed ! Granted, the man has done his bit for "world music" in the past (notably producing the 'Edikanfo' LP and 'My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts') but this paternalistic 'godfather of Arabic music' stance surprises and rankles with me. > What's so ironic is this music has been around forever, > only not mainstream. So true ... the tune to 'Enti Rahti' (from Rahid Taha's 'Diwan' album) can also be heard (in a somewhat different lyrical context) as 'Quen A Virgen Ben Servira' on an album of medieval European music ('The Pilgrimage To Santiago' by Philip Pickett and The New London Consort). Now THAT'S 'crossover' music ! As for (rather more contemporary) Arabic/fusion music I particularly like 'Jazz Sahara' by Ahmed Abdul-Malik, Rabih Abou-Khalil's 'Blue Camel', the Jaz Coleman and Anne Dudley 'Songs From the Victorious City' album and, of course, Jane Birkin's great 'Arabesque' take on Serge Gainsbourg's songs.
