This is not indicative of an honorable trader suddenly taken with illness/personal problems, especially since he used the exact same excuses then as he is apparently using now. To 'sign off' the list is also indicative of trying to escape discovery. I had hled off outing Daniel because of his long history and I although I suspected that he was possible scamming many others, I also know that some would come to his defence. In Aug. 2002 he wrote: "Thank you. I'll start copying them this weelkend and have them shipped early next week. My arm is infected so I am not going on full speed. Have agood weekend." three months later, and still no CDs "I've started to copy all my Roxy and Ferry CD's into my mac, but it is a low process. I do not have any money, our old house is not sold yet and my wife is ill, so I can not burn them because my burner is old.." and ended with this exchange: > Me: I am sorry to hear about your wife's illness. I hope she is > better soon. > DA: It will take some time, she's uverworked and is not functioning well. > Me: I do have a broadband connection, so if you opt to make it > available online, > that would be OK. Or, if you can estimate how much it would cost to > ship the > CDs I can help pay for shipment. > DA: Ok. It would run between 50 and 100 dollars. > Me: Maybe sending the whole collection is too much. Perhaps we can > do it in > smaller installments. About how many CDs do you have? > DA: Around 30. I'll try to get a list in the future. > Me: I am sure we can work something out. Let me know. > DA: Yes you're very easy to deal with. Yup, a an easy sucker to scam.. :( So, this is back in 2002 mind you... lots of excuses, infected arms, sick wives, slow burners, no money, dead dogs, oh, did I say sick wife? and the latest: "First my wife and then I have been ill - with a new puppy - and I'm behind on a lot of things in life, including my trades. I will, hopefully by the grace of God, get to it this weekend. Most of them are burned, I will get them in the mail." Sorry, I am not buying the sudden illness story.. Burn me once, burn me twice, but... Personally, if he is indeed having problems, he has my sympathy and I don't need any more CDs. Unfortunately I suspect that in fact he has been playing some Avalonians for a few years now. Just like when a murderer or pedophile is caught, there are always those who are startled and incredulous. Not holding up your part of the deal in a trade is certainly not as serious, but the same principle of denial by those who know the "criminal" applies. My only concern is that no one else in this fine community, where I have had nothing but happy, successful trades, gets taken. Trade with Daniel at your own peril. As most people know, Roger was the original Roxy guitarist, appearing on the now-legendary demo which brought them to the attention of Richard Williams. In recent years he had been more focussed on human rights activites, founding an organisation called MIHRA (the Music Industry Human Rights Association). I corresponded with him by email a few times in recent years (sadly all now lost, along with my hard drive) and he always came across as something of a character (his secretary even emailed me once to correct some salacious gossip he had told me). Roger was, at that time, trying to get his 1969 solo album released on CD - it makes an appearance in this month's Record Collector as an undiscovered classic of its time. He even sold me a dodgy CD transfer he had made from a poor copy of the LP (but it was worth it !) I'm glad to say it appears he succeeded, as it was released this year on the Rollercoaster record label ( www.rollercoasterrecords.com ). A fitting epitaph to a fine musician. Regards, Ivor n.p. I can't believe what I am reading. We have a long term list member who clearly has been struggling for several months with personal problems, including what seems to be a serious illness on the part of his wife, who is not on the list, and who cannot defend himself, and people are flogging him over and over and over. I doubt anyone is ever going to have the chance to enter into a trade with Daniel for a long, long time, and possibly never again. Count your blessings that you are not dealing with the things Daniel is apparently facing. And please stop posting private emails to the list without permission.
