An artist like Roxy/Ferry would be lost in the Christmas market with all the various artists and greatest hits albums that come out then so they avoid this period. January is the same as a lot of people have record tokens or returned unwanted or two of the same presents. The release date is a very calculated thing and not merely as soon as possible after the last note is recorded. The album then has to tie in with TV slots, press, tours, etc. There is no use in an album coming out if they are not on TV to promote it and there is no use on being on TV with nothing to promote. Once they know they have crossed the finish line in the studio they will then seek out what TV and press slots they can have and work out the release date around that. Remember Frantic was moved one week in UK as the Queen Mother died which meant Ferry's appearance on Parkinson was moved one week. It would have been a waste of time for him to be on that show and the record not in the shops that Monday as originally intended. Check the Press and TV for Frantic at this link. _http://www.vivaroxymusic.com/news_20020403a.shtml_ (http://www.vivaroxymusic.com/news_20020403a.shtml) This isn't just for Ferry/Roxy it is the same for most acts. Using Frantic as an example, we got the album title in early January, the artwork and track listing early February and then the album at the end of April. So to use that as a guide, the album wont be out until at least 3 and a half months after we hear the first news beyond 'they are recording an album'. As they seemed to have missed a mid November release I would say that with no more than an educated guess it wont be out until April providing we start to hear more concrete information early January and for every month we don't hear anything after January add another month on to the release date. This may be true in the UK, but I'm pretty sure Manifesto came out in the US in early March 1979.
