Broadly chronological, there is a song-by-song critique of the entire Roxy output, with the emphasis on Roxy rather than just BF and also early-period stuff over later, although all eras are covered, with even a mention of the Sheraton Pines gig that took place just five weeks ago. There's also some overdue appreciation of figures like Dr Puxley. The approach is similar to the very good 1982 Rogan book with a ton of contemporaneous material referenced in the bibliography and sourced throughout the book. The writing is much less dense than all that metaphysical mumbo-jumbo Stump put us through, and I've found it easier reading. Despite the characteristically disparaging remarks we have already heard from Avalon, I think from my initial perusal there are certainly some interesting stuff in there. Certainly there are quotes and references I hadn't seen before, and overall a nice eye for detail I thought. I liked the reference to the telegram BF received after his first solo release "Congratulations on your record A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall. fanf**kingtastic! - Ringo Starr." With due deference to David Buckley's more folksy book, which I also thought was excellent, this feels like an authoritative fan's book to me. Together they make a good pair. Overall, I like it, and believe me, I've read 'em all. I have read that great Ringo quote before, think it was in NME, and the article made mention of how chuffed Bry was by this unexpected acolade. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Chris Turner Sent: 15 September 2005 00:49 To: Avalon Subject: RE: [AVALON] Both Ends Burning I received a copy this morning and have read about 70 pages (of 300) and had a quick flip through the rest.
