I see that there's been a lot of activityt on the list this summer. I see that there's been a DVD-tree of the Live8 performance. Is it possible to get a DVD-copy from someone??? Does anyone have other recordings (audio/video) from the 2005-tour to trade??? Cheers Ole ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 26 Jul 2005 12:11:03 -0700 (PDT) From: Joel Hurd Subject: [AVALON] Live 8 re-review and other points I've recently rewatched Roxy Music's Live8 performance in Berlin (on the AOL.com stream) and I've some points to make: . * * Bryan's voice sounded very good. (Good, there seemed to be less reliance on the backing singers) * * The voice was very clear and prominent in the mix. (Good, to a degree) * * Andy's oboe was almost inaudible. (Bad) * * The crowd were dead! (Bad, but a somewhat outside factor I would imagine) * * The four songs in question were a smart choice for a broad audience (Good, though of course not necessarily for us few hardcore fans!) * * Bryan looked surprized when virtually no-one shouted back "Virginia Plain!" (Bad and Good, in that it might make the guys realize that a new studio album is a necessity for relighting old audiences and exciting new audiences) * * Roxy did a very professional job and marched ahead. (Good, see previous point) * * Fez can still reach high notes going by his "Woo hoo hoo!" celebratory cry at the end of Do The Strand! (Good, ;-P ) . . I think it was a good performance overall, but I'm a bit disappointed that it seemed to be either overlooked (TV-wise) or improperly received (live-gig-wise) - -------------------- . . I've previously read that Bryan Ferry was the only Live AID performer in 1985 whose album sales were NOT improved at all by his showing at the time. Even Adam Ant/Adam And The Ants' sales went up! Did Roxy Music's back catalogue increase in sales much by their Live 8 appearance? Loads of other act's sales (both young and old, bar Pete Docherty/Babyshambles) rocketed because of it. . best,, - ---joel Tired of spam? Yahoo! The sound quality isn't *great* as it's a typical audience recording and a fair few of you just wouldn't stop singing along and chatting. But it's all there. The intimate London gig by Roxy Music reformed once more and trying out some long unheard classics and ne'er a newie from the sessions in the studio. So here's the deal: I will send FREE copies of the 2CD set to the first UK, USA and "other" address that sends me an e-mail OFFLIST with a promise to further branch out the music to others. I can offer just two more sets to people who are unable or unwilling to copy for others. Five copies of the set, 10 CDs in all and then I'm pulling down the drawbridge, because that's how treeing is supposed to work. So come on, I've sent this as late as I dare before the digest gets sent out, to be fair to one and all. Be one of the first three tree-ers (try saying that after a few bevs) or be one of two more and you'll get the Koko set from 2005. Can't be bad... Best wishes Richard Mills n/p Muddyhead - Land And Sea (finally tracked down a copy of the Liverpool Pops support band's album - not at all bad - I mean it's good). ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V10 #180 ***************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
