I have been to many Ferry/Roxy concerts and this one has to be up there with the best of them, Ferry was on top form as was the rest of the band - - they were out there having fun. The Bogus man was fantastic as was Prairie Rose - I was a bit worried about hearing this after the Koko show, nothing to worry about as this was brilliant. I too enjoyed Jealous Guy, in Liverpool it just seems so right, Fantastic crowd and a great gig, but it was so hot inside the "tent" Terry Lane ( not penny ) - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org] On Behalf Of Jocelynfiske@aol.com Sent: 12 July 2005 21:55 To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] Liverpool - Top It's been a very long time, and probably not on English soil, that a Roxy/Ferry gig has left me speechless - and you know I speak metaphorically as it's nigh on impossible for me to keep my big trap shut. But Liverpool did just that. It was absobloominlootly amazing. As Mark said, it couldn't have come at a better time. I couldn't wait to get out of London after the horror of Thursday and head off on the road to a blazing weekend on the sunny Southport sands. So - good or bad gig, I'd already had what felt like a week's holiday in the sun. I arrived in The Pool with no expectation whatsoever, other than to meet a whole bunch of Scousers for the first time and feel like I'd known them for years after only 5 minutes. But this gig was something else. The band were cooking (and not just because it was well into the 90's in that oxygenless tent). Ferry did his little dance with the backing sisters not once, but twice and grinned like a fool. Andy let his mullet down and shook his little tartan ass for all it was worth. Phil reminded us how integral he is to the true Roxy sound (something we don't give him enough credit for) and Paul was breath taking. One of the highlights was the Bogus Man where Ferry "chuka'd" along to David Williams funky chops long after last orders. that brought the house down, as did Prairie Rose now full throated and full bodied. I never once wished a song away, or thought right we're on the home stretch now. I even enjoyed Jealous Guy - it belongs in Liverpool (and should stay there!) My little Jimmy Sommerville lookalike mate to my right introduced himself with " 'ey, I 'ope you're not goin' to sit down luv, we dance 'ere you know!". this was reiterated by the lass behind us and the two lovely wobbly Roxy girls in front. And we all went for it like maniacs. Great, great fun. Very late to bed, completely wired and up at the crack of sparrow's whatsit to jump on a train back to London in time to put in a feeble attempt at a day's work. All well worth it though. Great company as usual and fab to meet new faces Fran and Mrs Fran aka The Lerkers. After doing some checking I find that Guy Pratt did play bass for the reformed Floyd on their last studio album, The Division Bell and the live album Pulse. Tony Levin played bass on the other album non Waters A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Striving to stay on topic (cough, cough): Our man Phil co wrote a Floyd song with David Gilmour which later appeared on Lapse of Reason, One Slip. The only problem with that tune is that the previous song from the album, "The Dogs of War" has its fade-out over the beeping and clicking at the opening of "One Slip" so years ago I cut up some snippets of the computer sounds from 'Alien' and put them together as a new opening to "One Slip" so now it plays as a single on the hard drive in the trunk of my car and I don't have to listen to "The Dogs of War" to get to it. ;-) Now if I could just figure out some good way to separate "Dear Prudence" from "Back in the USSR"... ;-) On Jul 14, 2005, at 3:26 PM, John Dillon wrote: > Our man Phil co wrote a Floyd song with David Gilmour which later > appeared on Lapse of Reason, One Slip. > > Best > > John Dillon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Jul 2005 21:40:00 -0700 From: Larry Buchalter Subject: [AVALON] Sadistic Mika Band?
