["Duncan Watkins" Subject: [AVALON] Liverpool-Hansen tackled from behind! I totally agree with all the comments so far- this was a truly great show- a classic in fact! The show has been described very well already-so just a few jottings about the gig in general. Found out when checking our seats, that our 'front row' seats were in fact second row and that the front row was occupied in the middle by various people from Liverpool football club, messrs Hansen, Parry, Moores to name a few. But this turned out in fact to be good news- as they remained seated until the last 2 songs so we had a perfect view throughout! Muddy Head the support were actually pretty good -one member ? bass player from 'China Crisis' Fantastic audience to be part of, particularly the seething mass at the front, I was next to Jane,Al and Jocelyn-so you can imagine it was a bit physical at times! Two ladies just in front and to the right also provided great entertainment- with their gyrating etc! Met a load of other list members and fans that I knew- far too numerous to mention! (lame excuse for not wanting to forget anybody!) Non musical highlight of the show- Alan Hansen looking stunned and bewildered as a guy from the second row leapt over or possibly through him to get to the barrier at the front-very briefly as it turned out! After the show as Mark said (very special thanks here to Radha!) we found ourselves backstage and I think chatted to most people in the Band -who were all very pleased with the gig. David Williams told us that the 'Bogus Man' ending was spontaneous, but that once he and Bryan got into it, neither of them knew quite how to finish it! Very impressed with Otis- he was quite charming, but still a bit weak after his recent illness. Magical night-great way to end the tour! Regards, Duncan. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 13 Jul 2005 06:49:41 EDT From: Chandla911@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Roxy in Liverpool Review said: "In-between chat was kept to an absolute minimum, other than to introduce the members of the band. Sensibly, they let the music do the talking. It is difficult to put it into perspective in the immediate euphoria of writing this only an hour or so after they came off stage, but I have to say this must be one of the best gigs I've ever seen." Richard says: I would agree with the euphoria part. This was my son Oliver's first ever gig by Roxy Music (although he has seen Roxy Magic). For interest, quarter way through the gig, he rated them both pretty much the same, but he did fall on the side of Roxy Music by the end of the gig ;-) This was simply the best Roxy Music concert I have seen since the 18-year hiatus. I don't and can't agree with the absolute minimum chat bit. Firstly, Ferry actually spoke! He said "We love playing here in Liverpool, thank you very much". This, by his standards, is running away at the mouth. Also, I don't see why he can't do some talking, introduce a song with a memory or (gulp) even a new song off the alleged album being recorded. But given that there is no verbal contact between the band and the crowd, this performance was "both ends burning"... Mark! Jocelyn! Duncan! Richard! Thank You For Your Reviews On Liverpool!!! I freely admit a tinge of envy at your great fortune to attend such a wonderful Roxy gig. May they continue... I'd be so pleased if RM enjoys future success with their upcoming album. Also, good health (and particularly, good voice for Mr. Ferry) for many more years to further their touring would be exceptionally welcomed, I'm sure, by many of their fans (and future fans who will be drawn to their body of music - I'm hoping Roxy's 'new work' will capture the virgin hearts of the lost souls as well as reclaim their acclaim and garner new influence within the world of pop! A girl can always hope and pray - but not too much... Viva Roxy Music!!! They were quite good, although they got burned offstage (metaphors akimbo) by Roxy. On bass guitar is/was Gary Daly, erstwhile lead singer of China Crisis. Seems he is a bona fide member of "both line-ups", as they are sometimes an acoustic trio and sometimes a full-blown electric sextet, as on Monday. Liverpool soccer legend Kenny Dalglish and his wife Marina were at the gig; VIP ticket holders were offered raffle tickets (as I'm sure were many) to win a car in aid of the trust set up in Marina's name to raise funds for cancer treatment that meets a bare minimum standard for a 'civilised' country. When Marina was in hospital in Liverpool, one cancer patient was being treated on the floor due to lack of beds... Dead centre in the front row (just two rows in front of me) was ex-Liverpool defender and now TV pundit Alan Hansen. This will mean more to those who know who he is, as he is famously supercool and appeared to sit at the feet (literally) at an idol for style tips. Whatever his reasons for attending, they appear to have been other than musical. While his female companion and his mate on either side of him were up and down all evening for a bop, Alan Hansen remarkably remained seated, cross-armed and immobile all evening (except when he moved defensively to protect himself against the 'attack' from an enthusiastic Ferry wannabe in row 2 - a bit shame-faced when the two bouncers he involved discovered, the dancer was just leaning [and falling ;-)] over row 1 to touch "The Man" rather than the man)... Please keep them coming. What a year ! I've missed so much Roxy and Roxy Magic due to Weddings, Communions, Confirmations etc. I'm hoping to see Roxy Magic in August. What a tradgedy-7/7/05. The great City of London was put through such absolute hell. Having been through a similar terrorist attack here in Birmingham while I was growing up, all I can say is that that nothing is ever the same, it has taken a long time for the wounds to heal and we will never, ever forget those who lost their lives, limbs or minds due to the bombings. In Birmingham our hearts and souls ache for all the victims, families, friends and colleagues who are affected by this terrible atrocity .
