It's short, sweet and the current line-up could really do it justice. I'd love to hear it done. It's one of the most repeated tracks on my iPod from post-Bride Roxy and I never tire of it, always played at at a volume high enough to threaten my hearing. I love the dance recordings for different reasons but they wouldn't really suit the current line-up or mood and in this case, the original is still the greatest. Having recently caught the Frantic tour a couple of times and on more than one occasion found myself very much in the minority when bellowing out the lyrics to The Only Face, TTOIA et al it was tremendous to find myself not only 3ft from the stage but also amidst a throng who greeted the opening strains of Pyjamarama and Prairie Rose like some might a match-winning penalty save in a Champions League Final say.........in Istanbul. With regard to the gig itself I`ve very little to add to that already written by far more seasoned Roxy -watchers than I, other than tosay that having practically worn out my Apollo dvd, I suppose I would have preferred a Strictly Confidential to MOL or a Whirlwind to a JG but I wouldn`t disagree with Jeremy Clarkson`s assessment that the Koko setlist would have left most other band`s open-mouthed with astonishment or with the Guardian`s Adam Sweeting 4 stars out of 5. Ferry`s animation and the band`s easy interaction augur well for anew album and hopefully a subsequent tour. My real reason for writing is to say that I`ve never enjoyed queueing 5 hours for a gig quite as much as I did last Wednesday. The good-humour, wit and general bonhomie on display at the head of the queue wasmost enjoyable, so a big thank you to one and all; the Hibs fan who kept insisting I share his beer, Jocelyn bemoaning the contribution of 2 LFC legends to the recent underachievement of some footy team from the NE...the name of which momentarily escapes me......and a special mention to Essex girls Kate and Jane from Harwich whose company I enjoyed throughout both the waiting hours and the gig itself. I hope they enjoyed a safe journey home post-gig. Hope to see you all again at a future gig. However I could see it working for the 'casual' Roxy show goers. Personally, I don't mind it. It's nothing spectacular but it doesn't annoy me either. Either version (original album or single) works for me. It would suit the current entourage too, what with the female backing singers being there. I don't get where Bryan's head is at; either he must be on such an ego trip that he feels he doesn't need to produce new material for all of us--"guilty as charged here"-I will still buy tickets to see him, to hear him and to watch him sashaying on stage- OR he's burnt out...and figures as long as his fans buy his tickets, he'll continue to perform for us. Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there! I bet Terry Lane enjoyed that as much as I did. Oh the joys of Sky +! You can even record Roxy in the middel of the night and watch the interesting bits (ie the interview clips) a few times in the morning. On topic - however good it is I hope we dont see Roxy do new material at Live 8. Lets Stick Together sounds like a good idea....... Set : LST, Oh Yeah, Both Ends Burning, Jealous Guy. Ferry: Slave to Love Here is an excerpt from a manuscripts i am writing on B. Ferry called B. Ferry: Slave to Love. It is being translated from the original Bengali, so please consider it a work in progress. Cheers! Bryan was from the different epoch of his own surround. Feeling the future or the past, his gaze skyward but downward aplomb. A parody of self parody, for the academic parrots, he was the gaucho supreme for the new fresh. When irony have run his course, he had become what at the outset he had been for satire. Sequined forlorn mannequins cracked the hall of mirrors, and what was left was an inner essence of where the others had only thought superficiality. To make a collage, or a bricolage, but to give semblance of unity and originality, where the pastiche reverberation had come full circle, the affluent decadence could have consumed without a realization. The re examination of the nature of performance would have to give way to the need for making a living. But Bryan, it could be to posit, was becoming the most subversive when the critic natterers thought he was the most sugar and to sell. But what was his congniscance, could he just be that being an eccentric elliptical pop star, and the taste brigade reading into a well concealed void? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
