Heh heh heh... Except that when he was asked to list his "500 essential albums" in Vanity Fair's music issue a couple of years back, he ignored Roxy and Ferry completely!!! Still have not forgiven him. Yet David Buckley in his recent book insists Mr. Costello had acknowledged Roxy as a large influence. Does anyone have an explanation for this seeming contradiction? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 May 2005 12:19:09 -0400 From: KB Porter Subject: [AVALON] Roxy Hodgepodge My apology for this late response: I agree with Christian's earlier post regarding 'Roxy rehearsing'. Specifically, the hopes that Roxy is rehearsing material not previously or seldom heard in concert, that Mr. Ferry not waste his time selecting dancers, and that Roxy perform new material that was collectively collaborated between the four principles. I will deem this concert series as Roxy's 'last hurrah!' if there is no new Roxy Music material. I further hope that Colin Good is disconnected from all Roxy incarnations. And if Ferry attempts to regurgitate mostly 2001 reunion tour numbers, then I shall consider his music career officially over. Time is running out and this is the time for 'now or never'. (Another sign of the times - Last week's US News and World Report's editorial cartoon featured a spoofed "Kidney Stones" stage for the upcoming Rolling Stones tour with an elderly couple in the mosh pit area saying "Face it - - It's time for Mick and Keith to hang it up!") My question, if some knowledgeable soul will kindly respond: Is the lyric from the song 'Alphaville' "The silence you bear fits like the glove you wear." or is it "The sentence you bear fits like a glove you wear." or is it something else? FYI: Sweetwater's 'Double Barrel Ale' is superb! Nearly as good as the supreme 'Imperial High Desert'. Eat drink be merry. Old blood is better than new is why Ferry supports the hound set - it'll rub off on yer aft a few years. Belize it or naught. Over and out. KBP PS. Best wishes!!! ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 25 May 2005 22:26:01 +0100 From: philip77@tiscali.co.uk Subject: RE: [AVALON] Roxy Hodgepodge KBP wrote . I've been listening to early Roxy these last feew days and I envy anyone who saw them perform in 1972- 1975. Its 30 years on and I would like to see the band perform as first era Roxy Musi, but is it going to happen? could it happen? Review reads: In proclaiming Roxy Music to be the first- and possibly the best- of the art-rock bands, biographer Buckley presents Ferry as an obsessively stylish artiste, aloof and prone to musical dead ends. Replete with anecdotes about Ferry's skirt-chasing exploits, which among other things included losing girlfriend Jerry Hall to a persistent Mick Jagger, Thrill acknowledges the debt owed to Roxy Music by both early punks and by '80s pop idols like Duran Duran who made music in Ferry's image.
