And originality of an idea + talent in arranging/playing/singing = recipe of neverending success (but add some marketing promotion to secure). Listening to this song can even lead you to dream of BF flirting with bossa-nova... But I am not sure we can credit Manzanera's guitar for this jewel for it is almost inaudible. (2) Impeccably tasteful. We do agree. Most anybody. In my opinion, it is severe. The arrangements are actually tasteful, graceful, even cleaver and played by talented musicians. (My only regret in ATBG is the rather monotonous Ferry's voice. Don't blame me. From time to time I would have appreciate him to be more "punchy" and hear a smile in is voice.) For sure Colin Good knows all the theory of arrangement and hints in the field of "light music", but I also like the way he plays the piano, I mean he touches the keys, the diversity in nuancing the music sentences. The way he plays and arranges makes me think of Michel Legrand at the beginning of his carrer when he left the Conservatoire de Paris to become the house arranger for Philips label but was still playing marvellous jazz and french songs standards at the piano (Listen to Michel Legrand - Paris Jazz Piano - Universal - 548 148- 2 (LC 00699), you will not lose your time). Unlike other arrangers who seem happy with a stricly "utilitarian piano", they both sound like piano professionals. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 17 Mar 2005 16:55:02 EST From: Chandla911@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Lola Perrin - Brian Eno cover I am indebted to Ben of New York who initially asked about Lola Perrin and her new album Perpetual Motion which features a cover of the Eno composition "Forced To Choose" and to those that followed with titbits of information. I followed the weblinks offered by list members and have listened to some audio samples online. Very pleasant and dextrous piano playing, I must say. Talk about selective, there appears to be just the one shop that sells it in the whole wide world that sells the album - Ray's Jazz in Charing Cross Road, London. They don't sell online but if you can phone them on 020 7440 3205, they'll take a phone order. Or you can e-mail the artists organisation London Composers and arrange a sale that way. Their e-mail address is _pianoimages@blueyonder.co.uk_ (mailto:pianoimages@blueyonder.co.uk) The album is only a tenner. Well worth a punt in my book.
