I've wondered why Ferry would take these songs and 'sanitize' them. Was it to appease the record company? Or was it Ferry, himself, who decided the above recordings and others (such as NYC, Gemini Moon ...) needed 'more polish' before publication? Does anyone know? "No songs speeded up on that tour. Any verses cut out ?" I had previously assumed the lyrics cut out of performances, such as the 'Vassar girls too' stanza from "Street Life", was because Vassar had informed Ferry they wanted royalties everything their name was used, and he decided that dropping the lyric was preferable to paying any such royalty. But now, I think I may be wrong on that assumption. Could it be that Ferry really thinks that faster tempo and dropped lyrics enhance the show? Why would the 'artist in him' allow this treatment to occur? Just full of wonder. Best wishes. Maybe the target audience would prefer 2 minutes of the only face and two minutes of dance away to 4 minutes of the one.
