Incidentally, that reminds me that I read recently in the 7th Doctor Who Special that (as well as a frankly sickening amount of praise for a certain person who draws the Doctor Who comic strip) the mighty Mr Bob Dylan was asked permission to use one of his songs 'Only a Pawn in Their Game' in Doctor Who. The fee for its use was waived on account of Mr Dylan being a 'great fan' of the show. Rumours of Praire Rose appearing in the new series are yet to be confirmed...... Having lost confidence in his ability to sell new stuff ( we know there is a couple of unreleased masterpieces around in the Ferry cannon,) after Bete Noire and Mamouna fared so poorly,.." Assuming Ferry's 'lost confidence in his ability to sell new stuff' is correct - since the recording industry has increasingly become risk adverse, tending to prefer 'artists' with mass appeal and formalized 'talent' rather than risk a few dollars on a someone more true to 'their art' - it is not surprising Mr. Ferry has gone the way of 'covers' on new recordings that are contracted with label companies. It is unfortunate that BF hasn't (or won't) realize the very useful power of the internet as it is a great opportunity lost: Hasn't anyone told him that he could actually set up his own 'label' and sell directly? - That he doesn't need the dinosaur like record companies? - That marketing via the internet is very controllable and economical, and can even be very profitable on low volume sales if all is well structured? If he understands that, why wouldn't he hire a few good people to create and run the business side of the enterprise and daily devote a few hours of 'creative' work to supply the venture? Perhaps, he no longer has the ambition. Is this 'paradise lost'? Best wishes.
