Have spent the morning listening to the superb Franz Ferdinand who claim to have been heavily influenced by Roxy Music. I can sort of see this although its by no means as obvious as, say David Bowie and Suede. Certainly at this weeks Brits they (FF) were clearly inspired by Ferry's GI look. But for a band deemed as influential as Roxy, who are their children? Are the kids embaressed to be associated due to the MOR leanings of the bands latter period perhaps? Off the top of my head Radiohead, David Sylvian and Martin Fry springs to mind as holding some creative links but there must be more..... We are of course living in a world where Bob Gelodof is deemed influential enough to be worth a lifetime achievement gong at the Brits last week (hilariously a few weeks before he ranted that he did not want to be known as 'Mr Charity' which was surely what he was getting the award for anyway?) Might there be a fear that, should Roxy Music be recognised at the Brits that Ferry might commit a similar faux pas to the gaffe he made at the Q Awards?
