Interesting Chris........Having been away from the UK for the past Dozen or so years I never really knew what had happened to shake thing up at Radio 1 etc.Only recently have I had the pleasure of enjoying the likes of Marc Lamar,Mr. Ross et al over the wonder of Broadband. As often is the case, your comments prompted me to delve a little deeper and I came across the following article on the now deceased John Peel.(Apologies if it has been posted before) http://www.guardian.co.uk/arts/features/story/0,11710,1336420,00.html If I didn't know better, I think it may have been penned by a fellow North London jock as it gets to mention Bolan and Bryan in the same breath almost! Now my Clubbers question of the Week Jocelyn : Which off Bond St Club are they talking about? Thought he was a Radio 4 fan. Perhaps Sue Lawley's intrusive interrogational style puts him off. I bet he would have loved Roy Plomley though; now HE was languid. Of course the impeccably mannered Plomley wasn't keen on interviewing pop stars after Gary Glitter chose a blow up doll and a puncture repair kit as his luxury item. Chris PS Bobby Robson recently chose Chris De Burgh's Lady In Red. Like people don't take the piss out of him enough already... ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 4 Jan 2005 12:15:13 -0500 From: Colleen Matan Subject: Re: [AVALON] A mix Quoting Bahi : > * The Blue Nile's High, which appeared on JO'B's and Reecey's 2004 > lists: what a grower that one was. I've fallen off the music bandwagon and don't yet have _High_ and I guess I'll get around to getting that (and a bunch of the other 2004 favorites Avalon folks have raved about) eventually. > * Todd Haynes' film of Karen Carpenter's life, called Superstar and > featuring original Carpenters music (and withdrawn at Richard > Carpenter's insistence, ostensibly because permission hadn't been > obtained to use the music) is a treat. Thank you to all the posters who make this > place interesting and to our uncharacteristically quiet list-owner > for all her behind-the-scenes admin work. :) Yes, I have been kind of quiet, haven't I? My life changed a great deal over the last 18 months and all of the changes have been for the good. And somehow that has given me less time to participate here. ;-) I've had to let some good threads go by due to not having the chance to respond to them in a timely manner. I'll see if I can improve in that area this year. Happy New Year, y'all! These have been partially collected on the latter releases of You Are The Quarry and are an absolute must, its like having another Morrissey album! Don't Make Fun Of Daddies Voice is a personal favourite of mine. The main old favourite that I have been enjoying recently is the rather spiffing New Town tour. Well worth a revisit quite frankly, its eighties exuberance is matched only by the one of the most exciting moments in Ferry's live history; ie: His curious backward hop as he arrives on stage. That and saucy vixens Yanick and Ednah strutting their stuff in the funkiest of styles. Until the IYM tour gets an official release then this is the best we have of Ferry's solo performances. (Tramp, Annabel's or Noooooooooooooooooooo Tokyo Joe ?) Depends on which year - all the so called celeb haunts were around Berkeley Square and Piccadilly in those days but I would plump for the first one, as Ferry has always been notoriously partial to a bit of Tramp. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 5 Jan 2005 01:06:01 +0100 From: Daniel Atterbom Subject: Re: [AVALON] A mix At 12.15 -0500 05-01-04, Colleen Matan wrote: >Yes, I have been kind of quiet, haven't I? I wish that Everything But the Girl would release a new album, but they are as slow as the Blue Nile, i guess having a child does that to you.
