I have tried, but I just don't enjoy them at all. Over-produced, over-layered sound on practically every track. Each track is virtually indistiguishable from the next. Just so samey. I have heard Mamouna referred to on this list as Ferry's' masterpiece'. For me it's a pile of cack. Taxi is just a waste of time and effort. There may be some noteworthy lyrics in Mamouna somewhere, but i can hardly make them out, as they are hidden away, as if they are irrelevant. As for the Roxy output. Manifesto doesn't do much for me either. Len - -- - ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ HBOS plc, Registered in Scotland No. SC218813. I often think music is, in some ways, similar to food and drink, e.g. a cappuccino is a wonderful thing but sometimes a simple cup of instant coffee hits the right spot. And, occasionally there's nothing better than an expresso. So for me, if in the right mood, Mamouna is a Highland Park malt, with its subtle blend of smoke and honey which on first tasting seems light and flowery but on subsequent tastings the complexities and richness begin to reveal themselves, thus increasing the pleasure and in time come to regard it as a classic. But when I want crackers and cheese, I turn to Frantic. I don't even own it on CD. I would say that Southern Cross is the Phil Manzanera album that I listen to the least, and I don't listen to any Bryan Ferry albums as much as I listen to Southern Cross. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 30 Nov 2004 09:29:57 -0800 From: Helene Kremer Subject: Re: [AVALON] most-played list My most-played is Country Life, Stranded, FYP..... Again, it's the irony of the lyrics that keeps me coming back for more and more, not so much the music, because there are many catchy tunes out there. Country Life is a memorable and sentimental album for me as I've been listening to it since Halloween of 1983, when I was only 18. My favorite song of all time will always be OOTB because of the way I heard the song then to embody life, as in the good [and the bad] of life's events come literally out of the blue, and that's part of the wonder of life itself. I'm waxing philosophical so I'll stop. Stranded again is an album I listened to while going through a learning experience called life, and the song lyrics were fun and distracting. Mother of Pearl is a masterpiece for too many reasons and in too many words for me to express. I used to not like Roxy Music (1st album) or For Your Pleasure because I thought the songs were just plain odd. The album FYP has completely grown on me and I love how a gread deal of the songs sound sinister. I picture Bryan similar to Lestat near the end of the movie in Interview with the Vampir, bemoaning his life and lack thereof..... "Mamouna" is my most played Ferry reord. .Ferry reached a personal peak with this record, both in songwriting and production terms. It took him years to do, [cost a lot of money] but he is at his most elegant and symphonious ...I mean it must be played as a whole as its an entire mood piece with Ferry as the eternal drifter. Taxi and Mamouna.. good companions, quintessentially Ferry. Philip ___________________________________________________________ FREE weekend phone calls! In Your Mind on the other hand is one of my favourite BF's album. The first solo album he recorded with original material only. For RM I hardly ever listen to and Flesh and Blood. (too bad that Jobson didn't join them when they got back together again) Would have been great to see and hear them with Jobson in 1979 when I first saw them live. Best RM album for me are FYP and perhaps Siren /Rgds Kenneth ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ End of avalon-digest V9 #305 **************************** ======================================================================== For further info, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: info avalon-digest
