Both of them! Lee S" Come on then Lee! Tell all! I mean ALL! Mandy Awww, all right. You twisted my arm :) On Monday night Richard Mills (yes, our impetuous Avalon chum) rang me to ask if I'd go with him - at ten minutes notice - to London to see Roger Eno per form a 20-minute set in a sort of wine-bar/venue, Spitz in Spittlefields London. So, in a Judy Garland turn of events I was whisked away and within two hours had seen the wonderful Gamine (chanteuse; keyboards; trumpet) and then R Eno do a very odd little set; jokes about goats; worries about being skint; couple of songs; a 4000 year old love theme. Richard wanted to get copies of his cds signed, so we drifted up to what turned out to be the 'green room'. This we did, had a brief chat and a (free) beer with Roger and . . . his brother. I introduced myself to Brian as a fan of his music, but that in particular I though he might be amused to know that there was a Roxy Music tribute band rehearsing and that I was the alternative Andy Mackay. He laughed and said he'd spotted the similarity as soon as I'd entered the room. Those of you who know me will get the irony here - for those who don't, just imagine Andy being shorter, balder, fatter, proper sideburn-less and with no oboe. Not very savoury, is it? He asked the name of the band; I told him the name of both the one I used to be in, Foxy Music, and the one about to be unleashed on an unsuspecting world, Roxy Magic (completely different set of musicians). He seemed to be genuinely amused; I asked if he'd seen Andy recently, he said not for two years, but that he'd seen Bryan & Phil and they were all friendly these days - 'young men's egos'. I wondered if money and pressure had been factors in the original split; he said no, it was 'more about whose photos were in the papers most'. He also confirmed the story of leaving the stage when he felt it was embarrassing to have his name chanted whilst BF was singing. He said that it was 'a mistake, as it made things worse.' He graciously said he'd look out for Roxy Magic. Yeah, right Brian, I'm sure you will :) but nice of him to say so. Sorry to bring up the whole Tribute subject, for those of you who find it irritating, but I couldn't tell the one story without the other. I'll post once more when we're about to gig (first dress rehearsal this Sunday) and then leave you all alone. If you feel the urge - see the website: http://www.roxymagic.com/bandmembers,live.html Personally, it's a great thrill to be playing baritone in All I Want Is You; worth the dizzy spells :) And Cheers again Richard, without whom . . .
