[k hayden Avalon was a disappointment to me. >The same goes for "Boys and girls", I didn't find those magic moments there >at all.................. >I know that many Americans disagree here. Later there have been moments, but >not like the "good old days". Ole, this is great to have a discussion like this, thank you for taking the time and having the courage to start it. I agreed with much of what you said. But we have our areas of disagreement too.....to say there were no magic moments on two entire albums may be a bit overstating the case. I would argue that there were fewer magic moments on "These Foolish Things" or "Another Time Another Place" than there were on "Flesh and Blood", which seems to have escaped your adverse judgement. (-; Wouldn't you agree that, compared with such powerhouse romantic laments as, "If there is Something" or "Mother of Pearl", both hits from Flesh & Blood, "Dance Away" and "Oh Yeah" were relatively lightweight and commercial? And I felt "Same Old Scene", could have been seamlessly transferred to the Avalon album. Avalon and Boys 'N Girls aren't raw or edgy, they are romantic, ethereal, and hauntingly beautiful. Bryan is now in his late 30s, getting married, starting a family....he's through his raw and edgy phase, as far as writing and recording goes, although he (with or without Roxy) still performs the early stuff with the same passion and energy, albeit sans makeup, and leopard fur....But the superior craftsmanship and talent, and aguably, the magic moments are still there. The album sales, along with the airplay received shows lots of people WORLDWIDE (not just Americans) loved these two albums for what they were, without worrying what they weren't. Hey, let the man diversify.....not that we have to ever stop playing our old favourites. Something I once noticed about Brit audiences vs. American audiences was confirmed yesterday when I watched that new movie about early Motown. Apparently hardly anyone in America paid any attention (!!!) to the extraordinary backup musicians, but when they toured Great Britain, fans actually came forward asking for them by name, wanting autographs. You are definitely a discerning lot, my is off to you.... Well played Mr O'B, and blimey Joep, what else have you got hiding in your attic!! Gas Board tapes? The King Crimson audition? The fabled Alphaville lp? Jim Lawns soul? The Ark of the Covenant? ;0) Thanks for sharing. Any experts out there know who it was drawn by, Ferry himself perhaps? Saw a great German film tonight, 'Mein letzter Film' (My Last Film) on TV. Hannelone Elsner received the German Film Award 2003 for Best Leading Actress for this. To my surprise Bryan Ferry sang Just One Of Those Things to accompany the rolling credits!
