Censorship (which we are teetering on the verge of here in the states) decrees that you may not air particular views in any forum. Discretion gently persuades you not to air your views in a particular forum. (I have an neighbor who belives that W is causing the Book of Revelations to come true at last, and will quote chapter an verse from the speeches of Jerry Falwell. I CHOOSE to keep my discussions with her on the subjects of cats and garbage collection. I do not feel that my rights are being infringed...) In the past (late 2001) I was one of the prime offenders on this list, bringing in innappropriate politics at great length. I have seen the error of my ways. We have been politely asked to move the ploitical discussion of fox hunting off list; I have no problem with that. Yes it is. If Mr Ferry had been an American, I would not hot found it unusual, but, as other who live in the British class society will be able to explain better, from my Scandinavian viewpoint it is an amazing -- what we call in Swedish -- class journey or upward mobility. I think that pop/rock music is fast way to make money so the working class can move up. (The Beatles apart from Ringo Starr where middle class as was other British musicians born in the 40's.) - -- Daniel ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2004 19:44:55 +0100 From: "Rob Whiteford" Subject: Re: [AVALON] SOTW: "Boys and Girls" Judging by the output - definitely ! Total playing time 43 mins, 6 tracks of chill out music. Track listing: Sunrise 8.44 Bluebell Wood 11.31 Blackwater 5.41 Coral Strand 6.47 Purple Mountain 3.55 Valley Of Seclusion 6.53 Unintentionally hilarious sleeve notes: "In 1974 I heard a song on the radio that for the first time introduced me to the joys of music. It was performed by a band I had never heard of called Roxy Music. The following week I saw the band on Top Of The Pops and from that time I followed their career with interest. I am not sure if it was the unique delivery of lyrics, their stylish image or the fresh and distinct solos of the music (sic) but something attracted me and has kept me enthralled ever since. Following a hugely successful world tour the Saxophone player Andy Mackay came to stay in the hotel and later moved with his family to live in Kenmare. Much to my delight Andy and fellow Roxy Music member Phil Manzanera recorded an album in the hotel. Andy a classically trained Oboist has played with some of the world's finest recording artists from Paul McCartney to Godley & Creme. He has a very pure and poetic delivery, which in my opinion is at its finest on the instrumental Tara, a mystical 90-second finale to Avalon, Roxy Music's masterpiece. When the dream of SAMAS was becoming a reality, I contacted Andy to see if he would create a piece of music along the lines of Tara as a signature piece for the spa and the Park Hotel Kenmare. With SAMAS, Music Of The Senses we hope you will realise the power of music to create a moment of calm and personal space in our everyday lives. LUCY FERRY: WE'LL BOOT OUT BLAIR It's a story about "the ex-wife of rock star Bryan Ferry" arriving at court with Otis's girlfriend, complete with long quotes about how shocked the two of them were to have been charged; some detail also on Mrs Ferry's view that the government will be brought down. ("What happened to the middle way?" she asks, angry, it seems, that the option of licensing was not chosen and worried that an outright ban will leave Britain open to ridicule.) Several pictures of Lucy Ferry and Ms Coward (Otis's girlfriend), too. The Standard's web site carries merely an unrepresentative snippet but the BBC does better. http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/showbiz/articles/13329125?source=Evening%20Standard http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/london/3679660.stm Bryan barely gets a mention in all this but can anyone remember a Radio One interview with the cringe-worthy Simon Bates? Bryan was asked what he would like to see Otis do when he was older: he'd be happy, said Bryan, for Otis to become a game keeper. Otis was three years old at the time.
