The first three pages of today's national newspaper, the Daily Mail (my wife buys it, OK?), has a double-page interview feature with Lucy Ferry and some photos, biog etc on Bryan and Otis. Lucy says: "If Blair thinks we'll give up, he's made a big mistake". What a disappointment! I thought Roxy's version was very weak. The best thing that could be said for it was that neither guitarist tried to imitate Neil Young slavishly. But nor did they come anywhere near his brilliance on the original. Listening to the HSB version now, I feel much the same. Very workmanlike performances; sounds to me like a band merely going through the motions. BTW, this is the first time I have played HSB at all, since buying it in a "3 for 10 pounds" or similar sale about 2 years ago. Previously I avoided the CD, assuming it would be fairly substandard stuff. I haven't heard anything yet to make me change my mind. (Good backing vocals though.) Think I'll put on NY's version now, while I iron my shirt. Cheeri-ho.
