I may be late with this, but I always thought this to be a great cover by Roxy, er, re-interpretation, sorry. There is a version on the LP bootleg 'Surplus Sadness' which contains one of the best guitar solos I have heard Manzanera play. The HSB version is a good one, also because Andy Newmark commits a mistake at the start of the 1st chorus, I think. Makes it more special. If you listen closely to the HSB version - there may be an additional keyboard overdub. Or Guy Fletcher grew a third hand for that tour... Another possibly unwelcome remark: I misunderstood some of the lyrics from the way Ferry is phrasing them (uniquely). > You are like a hurricane > There's calm in your eyes > And I'm getting blown away I heard: You are like a hurricane There's storm in your eyes... Which may be impossible, but consistent somehow. > I am just a dreamer > But you are just a dream > You could have been anyone to me I misheard: You are just a dreamer And I am just a dream You could have been anyone to me Which would probably been a feasible Wilde-ish reworking of the lyrics by Ferry... Off topic I know but I once saw Mink de Ville supporting the wonderful Dr Feelgood at the Glasgow Apollo back in the late 70's when Spanish Stroll was charting. Can't remember that much about it as I was probably "cidered up" as was our custom when going into the town for gigs at that time. As Danny, Collette and others who have met me will no doubt testify, I still like a wee drink when going to a gig. Here's to the next one! Cheers the noo! Stevie NP - Stupidity Live/Dr Feelgood p.s. Can someone answer this for me, When and how did R n' B change from rhythm and blues as I know it to stuff like R Kelly, Usher et all? Just thought I'd ask as it's bothered me for a while now. So have these questions - - How do you tell when you're out of invisible ink? What happens if you get scared half to death twice? Why do psychics have to ask you for your name? Can you buy an entire chess set in a pawnshop? What do chickens think we taste like? What happens if you go on a survival course - and you don't pass? What if the hokey cokey really is what it's all about? What kind of fruit is in Juicy Fruit gum? What was the best thing before sliced bread? Who was the first person to look at a cow and say, "I think I'll squeeze these dangly things here and drink whatever comes out?" Whose cruel idea was it for the word 'lisp' to have an 's' in it? Why are they called "stands" when they're made for sitting? Why don't you ever see the headline "Psychic Wins Lottery"? Why isn't phonetic spelled the way it sounds? Anyone know the answers? I don't know why my head hurts so much but at the moment my teeth are kinda itchy. This time, people sought to fight for their right to kill foxes with packs of dogs. Seems quite tame compared with the campaign for the right to bear arms, but there was still mayhem. Not only was there fighting in the streets, but five protestors in white T-shirts broke into the debating chamber of the House of Commons, home to the UK's parliament. Their ring leader, Mr Ferry, shouted across the despatch box at Alun Michael MP and tussled with security as they sought to remove him. All very exciting. And of course, the Mr Ferry in question that helped organise this latest major breach of security is not out Bryan but his son Otis. National newspapers lead with this story almost uniformly, but sensationally. The Daily Mail today, not known as the Government's best friend anymore (huge spat in the playground), has led with its first 12 PAGES (count 'em) to cover these events. This is a NEWS story. Otis is mentioned as being Bryan's son, but HE isn't the story, the events are and the elan with which they were brought about. I have no personal respect for the lobby to prolong the barbaric practice of using such imbalanced force to kill small animals, but I take my hat off to Otis for the sheer impact of his gesture. I don't expect or want Bryan to lead a re-creation of the Jarrow March (with clothes by Oswald Boateng), but if he could just regain a small part of that vitality and do something genuinely exciting, to quote from ATAP, "what a wonderful world that would be"... I guess it's like trying to outlaw football or something. I suspect fox hunting is legal here in Denmark. At least they do plenty of some sort of hunting. Perhaps Ferry should write a "hunting" record. He could listen to Kate Bush's "Hounds of Love" for inspiration.
