You've probably guessed the series draws heavily on the NME archives, and this particular issue covers "the glory years of Glam Rock" between 1970 and 1975. A great time for rock music that saw the rise of the likes of David Bowie, Lou Reed, Iggy Pop, Roxy Music, Eno, T Rex, New York Dolls, Alice Cooper, Cockney Rebel and Sparks... all covered in this NME special. Not to mention (shame they had to) Rod, Elton, Slade, The Sweet, Gary Glitter, Suzi Quatro, and, according to NME, the Bay City Rollers! An ad for the publication claims the NME Glam special boasts: "Ravishing rare photos", "Original 70s interviews" and "Eye-witness reviews". Who among you can resist temptation like that? Maybe even more than what ever had been released by RM and BF I used to know someone studying at artschool He used to say that his best work stays in his mind... I.E. Artist tells all his friends about his great new painting, only to sit in front of the blank canvas for years. An artistic version of what in the bedroom would be called performance anxiety. Actually BF should put out a "Music That Inspired Me" CD. ( Originals Of Songs That I've Covered"?) The only effort required would be to buy some licensing rights, and get Anthony Price & ol' Bogdan to whip up a nifty package. I've been listening to some old tapes left from a friend who died some years ago. The "Early Duke Ellington" originals is miles above the "As Time Goes By" stylings of BF (and obviously Rod too) Regards, R Deagle (I hate using quotation marks for titles, but this list strips out italics as well as bold face type) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 22 Jul 2004 20:51:12 +0100 From: "Simon Galloway" Subject: Re: [AVALON] The Soul of Bryan Ferry > Date: Wed, 21 Jul 2004 11:37:22 -0400 > From: KB Porter > Subject: Re: [AVALON] The Soul of Bryan Ferry > a round of applause to Simon for > jolting our sleep with the overall topic Thanks!!! Actually, I've given the compilation a few listens now and it works really well. I was unsure how the stuff would sit together, especially the Taxi tracks with the early tracks, but it works really well. Light and shade. I liked Christian's 'The Mathematical Genius of Bryan Ferry (with Roxy Music)'. Although I'm struggling to get End Of The Line to fit. Am I being a bit slow?! Although I'm struggling to get End Of The Line to fit. Am I being a bit slow?!" Not slow, Simon. I took a double take of 'End Of The Line', went "hummm" to myself, then the photon struck me: The end of the line is merely a point, an omega point. (If BF should write a song 'Start Of The Line' or 'Beginning Of The Line' it would be the alpha point:) Therein is the convergence of Ferry's mathematical genius and his religious beliefs - the alpha and the omega - the beginning and the end, and everything in between! Upon this realization, the hairs on my forearms stood - Geez, Christian's beginning to scare me with his profundity! Best wishes. The record will be available as a single as well as on a new album and is a new version of the song rather than a remix of a previous version recorded by the Australian act.
