Phil Manzanera told me in Copenhagen 2001 that it was due to a number of reasons. Rik Kenton wanted Roxy to perform his songs, the others did not work out due to work commitments, personal issues etc, "and when we finally found someone we liked" ie John Wetton, "he left for Uriah Heep who at the time travelled in their own plane". - -- Daniel ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 10:05:54 EDT From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Re: Davy OList Interview In a message dated 26/04/2004 21:32:50 GMT Standard Time, shearerandrew@hotmail.com writes: Don't know about great interview but certainly very interesting. However, I also wonder about 'the departed ones' claiming their part of the cake. O'List's influence was certainly present and needs to be acknowledged, but apart from conceding Bryan wrote all the lyrics it sounded a bit as if RM had talent and ideas but no real plan how to get the songs finished, until O'List entered. And besides, I would tend to say in spite of all similarities there's enough difference between O'List's playing on the BBC session and Manzanera's performance on the 1st album. O'List was great on The 'In' Crowd and Chance Meeting 74, but for Roxy, Manzo was the better fit. Selective memory is a wonderfully self-protective tool. I'd love to know if Ferry et all were as incredulous at Davy O'List's rewriting of Roxy history as I was. I'm sure he, as the then, seasoned musician had a lot to offer at the time - after all in '71 only Andy was anything like a virtuoso, but listening to the Gospel according to Mr O'List he was Lennon/Macca, Spector, Baccarach, Hendrix and God (tick your preference) all rolled into one. However, there were a couple of little factual gems in there, that I for one, have never read about before. Bryan's then girlfriend Susie (the girl in the Mini -not the first, not the last) driving them about and the bit about the In Crowd being recorded at Pete Townshend's Quadrophenia studios. Fascinating addition to Viva Mr O'B. Anyone ordered or heard O'List's new offering? They both love film with a passion, they both borrow in great big dollops and rewrite, they could both wear film history anoraks with aplomb (that's Ferry wearing his circa Bride Stripped Bare complete with Gable moustache), they just choose different genres for their palettes. I think they should go out for dinner to discuss a joint venture, Tarantino is awfully partial to casting his leading men in the older, floppy haired, moody mould. Perhaps he could throw Uma Thurmon in as Mr Ferry's blind date to swing the deal. Miss Pink N.P. As borrowed from Bowienet From Bowie net: A mash-up is a song created from parts of other songs. Mix and mash two or more songs together to create something new and you will have a mash-up. We want you to mash-up any track(s) from David Bowie's REALITY CD and any other of your favourite Bowie tracks. Mix, match, mash-up and make something new. Currently heading the pack is "Boys Keep Looking for Water". If you played the same game with the Roxy/ Ferry catalogue, what would you create? Suggestions you mix-masters (and mistresses) out there? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 27 Apr 2004 17:30:48 EDT From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Mash-up. _http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30146&item=400987276 6_ (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=30146&item=4009872766) Part 3, after the Eurythmics...
