Poor introvert Bry...he wants to take in information about his environment (the furtive glances), yet still wants to guard his privacy, perhaps not realising most extroverts would take such glances as an invitation to break the ice and introduce oneself. It's a great paradox : an introvert individual having an extrovert career. It's too bad Mr. Nelson didn't introduce himself properly...extend his hand and say "Bill Nelson..I met you at such-and-such a place". That would have gone over just fine. It would spook me too if someone I was checking out in a public train station greeted me by my first name. It must be so much worse for a public figure, having strangers constantly greet you by first name as if they know you personally, when they don't. Any mingling with the public would be a constant opportunity to be put on the spot, and then to know that your reaction would undoubtedly be shared with many others, or in the worst case, written about, as Mr. Nelson has here. I deplore Mr. Nelson's charcterization of Bryan as rude and superior, when it is his own lack of both manners and empathy that caused him to flee from what promised to be yet another uncomfortable encounter with a mumbling, blushing fan. More like a Bunny Roundup. (Hoe-down might be too crass) I could see the Ferry fascination with the tarnished, outre glamour of the Bunny-as-ladytron. Certainly she is sister to Kari Anne & the Country Life Valkeries. As to the Stranglers, it's odd they didn't try to get Ms. Dolgy Ludwig up on stage, for the "find the audience member to strip and then make fun of" routine they often did, back in the day. ("That wasn't very good. We'll give you a B for effort, and an F for performance.") Nasty lot, they were. You can now buy tickets to see Bryan Ferry as support act to "Remember Shakti featuring John McLaughlin" on July 14 in the Auditorium Stravinkski on the shore of Lac Geneve. Interesting billing! The Auditorium Stravinski (indoor) is the largest space used in the Montreux Festival, saw Bowie there two years ago, but it's still quite small (about 3 or 4,000 persons maximum). For ticket details, go see: _http://www.montreux.ch/mjf/_ (http://www.montreux.ch/mjf/) UK fans might wish to note you can currently get return flights to nearby Geneva (45 minutes from Montreux) for 21 of your English pounds plus airport taxes if you fly easyJet from Luton.
