Although Ferry's attempts to "guide" Paul Thompson, Phil Manzanera, and the assorted other musicians in the early days must obviously have fallen on deaf ears....(-; But since the "Sirens" he always has had very watchable backup singers/dancers, and the female musicians added since the ATGB tour are hauntingly lovely as well. I think art-rock necessarily entails a strong visual element. Two tall and extremely handsome gentlemen (Ferry and MacKay of course) dressed in chic and interesting clothes...this is too big a "plus" to ignore. The way I see Roxy, it's like a passionate yet urbane rock band with Laurence Olivier as a frontman. Those witty and poignant lines he writes and recites.....when he sings he sounds as if he's crying. There's no one like them. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 9 Apr 2004 14:36:59 +0200 From: Daniel Atterbom Subject: [AVALON] Ferry & Van Morrison Both Bryan Ferry & Van Morrison have preformed the songs Carrickfergus and Goodnight Irene, Morrison having preformed both at Ulster Hall, Belfast 15/9/1988. Whoever stole that material is the originator of that disk. Did I mention Jim Lawn no longer works for Bryan Ferry? Oh, yes, I believe I did. Bryan Ferry is fully aware of who is responsible for this." - --------- For whatever reason, Tracy's post never made it to my mailbox. So thank you, Colleen, for helping me make sense of Lee S.'s mysterious post. I shall now write off any hope that Jim Lawn will grace Avalon List with the apology that I demanded, 11 July 2000: .} "I have wondered if Jim Lawn's aggressive accusations had been prompted because HE was the one who initially "leaked" the horoscope sessions to someone who shared with someone, etc. It is obvious, barring a burglary, that a thing such as horoscope had to come directly from someone in the Ferry camp. Sometimes, the "lady" who doth protest too much, is the guilty party. I make no accusations here, I am only exposing a reasonably logical train of thought... ... Mr. Lawn - what was there to gain in alienating some of Bryan Ferry's most ardent, loyal fans? Have you truly served your employer to the best of his interest? I would accept an apology along with a promise to treat Avalon List with respect and dignity befitting any Ferry Fan who has stood by their man through thick and thin, who have diligently and lavishly spent considerably sums of hard earned moneys on official Ferry/Roxy releases. Presumably, we help employ Mr. Lawn. Without us... well, livelihoods might be less lively. Your reply, Mr. Lawn, may be posted at avalon@smoe.org. Thank you for your consideration." Well. What Goes Around Comes Around. Let's hope Mr. Ferry is finally emerging from the thick, dark woods. - Sunlight is good. Very, very good. The sound you are not hearing is evacuated space. Avoided thoughts of time elements and of missing place. Nobody's won any particular race, just killing nothing at no set pace... "And the curtain's torn again." Best wishes.
