Indeed I think my position on personal attacks being unacceptable is one of my mantras, if not a broken record on my part, for many years on this list, dating back to well before I became list owner. However, despite my off-list communications with list members in which I had it abundantly clear that the matter has been handled and is best dropped, there has been some ceaseless squawking in my inbox this morning about The Need For Colleen To Speak Officially On The Matter And Make It All Perfectly Clear That It Is Unacceptable, so in order to obtain some peace and quiet for myself, let me speak officially on the matter: such behavior is unacceptable on Avalon. I apologize to those of you who find such a statement statement self-evident. Tracy unsubscribed from Avalon immediately after sending her message, and before I could pay her that same courtesy. I've been in contact with her and with John O'Brien, and I don't think I'm betraying a confidence from private email when I say John is satisfied with how I have handled this distasteful situation. I know that there might be a tendency among those of us who hold JO'B dear to be quite angry with Tracy and to send her nasty emails. However, based on her behavior on Avalon and in other Roxy-related fora, I suspect that she is not herself lately and may be wrestling with her demons. Therefore, if you are inclined to contact her, I ask you to temper any anger with mercy as I honestly think she is a woman in need of a great deal of help. This doesn't excuse her behavior or make it acceptable; however such tempered responses may allow her to think about getting some assistance. If anyone wishes to speak about this further, please contact me off-list. Thanks, Colleen ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 06 Apr 2004 07:35:20 -0700 From: esoul Subject: [AVALON] More than Star Wars . . . Hi, Just dropping out of lurk mode to say that my ears popped off of my head when I heard Bill Murray aka Nick the Lounge Singer croon "More than This" . . . I found the movie an extremely interesting travelogue introduction to the rich and trendy characters of the Japanese night. As it is highly unlikely that I'll ever be invited to a late-night karaoke binge in Tokyo, it was a vicarious experience. Let's petition Bill to sing the entire Avalon album! Who would buy that one? C'mon, admit it, you would. cheers, - -Tom <<<<<<<<<<<>>>>>>>>>>> I'd Yawn, Too: "http://www.emeraldsoul.com" ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Apr 2004 20:23:12 +0100 From: "Guy Lawley" Subject: [AVALON] On a lighter note (re: Lost in Translation) re: Lost in Translation Enjoyed the movie, though not as much as some have, perhaps. Astounded that it should get Oscar-accoladed to the extent it did, but maybe it was best from a bad year. Much discussion with friends about choice of songs in the karaoke sequence. I think it was carefully though out, but have yet to find anyone who agrees with me. Sex Pistols: raw youthful anger & energy. When you're young you think it's all black & white and sod everyone who disagrees with you. Rebel against the system (in the privacy of your room)!! Smash the state (at weekends)!! Never trust a hippy (anywhere, anytime)! Nick Lowe & Elvis Costello: What's So Funny 'Bout Peace Love & Understanding? Hey, wait a minute, maybe those hippies were asking some of the right questions. Smashing stuff up isn't always the answer. F*** me, am I starting to "grow up" or "mature" or something? (Help!!) More Than This by You Know Who: Adult, existential philosophizing. (In a pop song, yet!) Fits the mood and the head-space Bill Murray's character is in, and his young woman-friend is prematurely experiencing similar angst. See some sort of progression through the 3 songs? I do. And I'm quite sure Sophia Coppola and her collaborating scripter didn't choose those songs at random. Any thoughts anyone? Love, Peace and cherry bombs, Guy PS: that part of the movie made me cry. Only the second time a Roxy song has actually brought tears to my eyes, though once Ferry's Carrickfergus did. PPS: I was fooled by the Eno April fool in the Independent!! How pathetic is that? (My only excuses: I read it late at night. I'd forgotten it was April 1st. I'd sussed the Guardian's April fool story earlier in the day, honest.) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 6 Apr 2004 15:44:52 EDT From: Jocelynfiske@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] Let's get a few things straight here (was Rumours, is now Facts) In a message dated 06/04/2004 13:14:50 GMT Standard Time, tracy-elliott13@ukonline.co.uk writes: Taking this bile chronologically: > hear rumours that Jim Lawn is now longer and that JO'B will be the new chief > umbrella carrier. Fact: Jim Lawn no longer works for Bryan Ferry and we'll come back to that point in a moment. Fact: John O'Brien runs a website called wwwvivaroxymusic.com started as a hobby and a show case for his ridiculous amount of memorabilia that, with contributions from fans worldwide many of whom reside on this list, has grown into an encyclopaedia of all things Roxy/Ferry. John O'Brien is no-one's factotum, baby sitter or stamp licker. He has a job, he has a life and coincidentally, he also has a hobby. If Bryan Ferry is impressed by John's site, it is because his attention was drawn to it by his son - not by John O'Brien. > As the originator of that recent "leaked" disk - I find BF's choice > strange. Fact: That material, along with the Horoscope and Alphaville offerings, were STOLEN from Bryan Ferry's studio and copied. Whoever stole that material is the originator of that disk. Did I mention Jim Lawn no longer works for Bryan Ferry? Oh, yes, I believe I did. Bryan Ferry is fully aware of who is responsible for this. If this material has found its way around fans, ask who put it on Ebay, ask who bought from Ebay? P.S. He may not respond, as he is etc...... I doubt John would deign to dignify this unmitigated personal attack with any acknowledgement at all. I think Lee S put it brilliantly. But as a good friend of John's, I am not prepared to sit back and watch a particularly grubby kettle call the pot black, and wash their exceptionally filthy laundry in public. Whatever your gripe, this is not the place for it. Your amateur attempts to discredit John are frankly pathetic, your obsessive behaviour border-line psychotic. I urge you to get help for your alcoholism and you mental health problems. If you are intent on destroying your life, please don't attempt to take anyone else down with you, and please don't do it here.
