Maybe elsewhere too, following her recent sell out tours across Europe. I have the Album - but really can't hear any connection to this alleged 'Casio Organ' sound as was quoted here - that's an 'I Thought' sound, and not really comparable at all to the new version of Dream Home, which reminds me more of the basic Portishead or Massive Attack type feel. As for the comments about 'singing' it, this really is almost a spoken track, not so much sung, as it was in the first place, back in 1973. Having said that, Jane does it well, and certainly gives it a different slant. If there's one criticism I have, it's the fact that to me, it is surely glaringly obvious that both vocals were recorded in different studios - I don't believe Ferry and Birkin actually met, rather the fact they did each vocal in their own Studios, with the track being melded together later. Also, the vocal acoustics sound very different, which I believe gives that fact away, no doubt we'll find out for sure at some point. This would explain the fact too that Ferry does the first part of the song, and Jane the second. I would have much preferred 'alternate lines', but I guess they would have had to have met up in the same studio to do just that to some effect. But I'm surprised, and somewhat pleased, with the version. Having been a fan of both artists for many years, I did approach it with some trepidation in case I didn't like it, but am pleasantly surprised. > Finally, Birkin is to some a legend, indeed a sexual icon, and I can't imagine this wouldn't have appealed to Ferry's sensibilities.> That's got to be a part of it. > Maybe it's a combination of these elements which > persuaded Ferry to collaborate? Yes, Ferry chooses carefully. << One final thought though.... I wouldn't be surprised if Birkin wasn't persuaded to do the > song over some pillow talk from one of our own. > Ooh, scurrilous gossip ! A quick footnote,, as I run a record shop : In the batch of new releases which arrived here yesterday, there were 8 copies of Jane's new album. They've all sold already... and it's selling well too at my rival shop just down the road. She's certainly built up quite a following here in the UK too. This version of Dream Home though - it's very different to the rest of the Album, for sure. I am now wondering if Ferry will do similar arrangements with other artists - would be interesting, just the way he did by redoing his 'own' material, as he did years ago, with 2HB and the like (successfully) and Remake Remodel (ermm, not quite as successfully). Personal opinions abound, eh ? Reecey... __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Finance Tax Center - File online.
