Now, Oklahoma only has two big towns, Tulsa and Oklahoma City. Ardmore is about 100 miles south of Oklahoma, roughly halfway between Dallas and Oklahoma City. It is a very, very small town, just big enough to have a McDonald's, not big enough to have any of the usual chain restaurants like Chili's, to give you an idea. It's basically spread out over about a 1-by-3-mile quadrant. There's nothing picturesque in the least about Ardmore, though about 10 miles south there is a nice state park where me and my old dog Edie spent a few happy days over the years hiking and boating and sleeping in lovely quaint cabins of varying sizes, from claustrophobically tiny to two bedrooms and a view. This bar and grill link, I had to strain to remember, was in there because Cheap Trick actually played this place a couple of years ago and I thought about going. I couldn't imagine why they or anyone else would play this out-of-the way burg, but there it was. So I just went and looked, and sure enough, they are still booking bands in there. All kinds. Willie Nelson is sold out at the moment. Leon Russell, an Oklahoma native, is currently on sale. I never cared for Leon Russell, but he did use to keep pretty good company. He had a recording studio on the other side of the cove from our family's lakehouse in another part of Oklahoma and there was no limit to who you might see floating in a boat out there. I truly believe I once saw George Harrison gassing up an ancient red pickup one day in '70 or '71 at the side of the road by the spillway. The next day, I heard on Tulsa radio that Harrison and Clapton were working in Russell's studio on the lake. But I digress. I just think it's sort of thrilling that this little place in the middle of nowhere is booking an assortment of bands and selling out. If the Two Frogs Grill in Ardmore, Oklahoma can support Cheap Trick and Willie Nelson and assorted hard rock bands, surely the Dallas/Ft. Worth Metroplex can support Bryan Ferry or Roxy Music, hmmm? Though I might rather see them at the little bar and grill in Ardmore and spend the night at the lake there. I might even cede my "choice" cabin to Bryan, and I recommend he take the Murphy bed rather than one of the two bedrooms, because then he will have the spacious living area surrounding him and a view through the trees. Sorry, no 5-star hotels nearby, not even remotely close....Well, there are a few in Dallas, about a hundred miles to the south -- if you insist. And............for those of you who complained about Bryan's shows being to short. (Insert drum roll here).................. I just made it even shorter!! That's right. I gently re-edited the 2 CD show down to 1 CD. Running time is now 76:46 for all 20 tracks (1 track=Introductions). Hey, is this starting to sound like a K-Tel commercial. Anyways, I also attempted to clean up the hicups with good to no change results plus re-eq'd, re-amplified, re-normalized and re-gurgitated digitally ect ect ect. Oh, and for the Eno fans I also re-transferred it:) And for those of you who have listened to this as many times as I have now, do you find yourself make room for the gentleman to walk thru, who at the very beginning of "Don't Think Twice..." says repeatedly, "Excuse Me, Excuse Me". Anyways, you know the rules by now...
