MTT was played at the Nottingham and two Birmingham NEC shows in June 2001 I attended. Fairly sure the Birmingham first night version appeared as a bonus track on one of the Avalon CD's. From that 1989 Biography : > Ironically, his breakthrough came with a disco song, "Love > Is the Drug." Ferry apparently ignored, or was ignorant of, > the hatred between followers of rock and those of disco, > stating only that "big disco records have better chances to > spread." Come ON, "Love is the Drug", although eminently danceable, is certainly NOT a "disco song". Disco songs were fun and upbeat and joyful..."LITD" is smarmy and jaded, edgy, and extremely cool. It seems to me Ferry is poking fun at disco and the singles scene with this song. This biographer obviously missed that point. I have always thought LITD was the prescient beginning of the New Wave, which would hit the airwaves quite a bit later, 1978 I think. Its sound obviously influenced Elvis Costello, the Cars, and the Talking Heads. It definitely has the sound of a 1980s song, not a 1975 song, and in fact when local alternative stations do a "Back to the 80s" show, it gets included. I think Ferry deserves a LOT of credit for that song, it was new and different in its day just as Virginia Plain was. I think it was the "Hey Ya" of 1975. Glad to hear I wasn't the only one who found some amusement with this so-called 'narrative biography' - did you know it is part of a prominent and 'authoritative' (well respected) database that is perused by millions on a daily basis for reference purposes? I guess, in part, this is how 'history' is 'rewritten". I cringe to think that only the 'subject' of a bio is capable of requesting updated info contained therein!
