Whoever she is, she seemed determined to stamp her 'brash and zany' personality all over the 'interview'. Fucking awful. Ferry sure has some scary fans. On the other hand, I couldn't help but find it interesting viewing, the questions and comments were still as bland as ever "you're known as the coolest man in britain" etc. etc., but the 'interview style' was something new, that's for sure. It was just silly. The female interviewer and her girlfriend had been Roxy fans in London in '73 when they were both about 13 years old , and would stalk and harass Bryan. She described where his apartment was, and told him they would ring the buzzer, and he would "pick up the phone...and there was no one there". So she said she and her friend must have been the inspiration for that line in "Street Life", and he said "of course...of course you were." And then they stalked him at EG Management, too. She described the offices and the receptionist, whom Bryan said had married Bryan Eno. The last thing she said was that Bryan had inspired her to go to art school, but when the art teachers didn't look like Bryan Ferry, she switched to fashion. And then she plugged her store in Sydney, and he obligingly albeit uncomfortably said "well, we'll have to have a look then." It wasn't so much an interview as a demonstration of what it must be like to be a celebrity and have a typical conversation with a fawning fan. Bryan aquitted himself very well, I thought. He was patient and kind, and tried to stay engaged. I think Bryan is funny because when he's uncomfortable he puts his hands up to his mouth, which in police interviews is a sign that the person is being deceptive. So in his case I suppose it means "I'm being so polite but really I can't stand this!" But you have to give him credit for his humility, not putting the fan in her place, or thinking he's better than other people. And he is empathetic, remembering when he himself was a fawning fan of Otis Redding or Bob Dylan, for example, and realizes if he had 5 minutes with his idol, he'd be hopelessly uncool, probably, too. You gotta love him. Granted, not the usual professionally conducted interview that we've all come to expect, but it was very interesting to watch Ferry's management of the event. He did not control the flow of the discussion, it was more discussion than it was interview. BF did quite well with 'Ms. Ramrod', a most obnoxious 'interviewer'. He's only fortunate that she didn't offer him sex while on camera (or, indeed, decades ago as she spied on him at home). Still, the interview was entertaining, and Mr. Ferry faired very well. I thought his comment 'you were looking through your binoculars, no doubt' was very funny as she prattled on about the 'postage stamp' hanging in his office which she so coveted but was never able to obtain. Head 'em up. Move 'em out. Best wishes. Hah ha. Yes indeed. And maybe this 'interview' will stick in Ferry's mind such that it does indeed inspire him to write some (more?) lyrics about her. Then at least her suggestion that Street Life was a reference to her would be half right! That's one lady he couldn't romanticize in song. :) __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
