I have to disagree with his conclusion on Drawn From Life, which is a simply beautiful album, especially Bloom. And where's Taking Tiger Mountain? The album that Phil Manzanera had a big hand in is nowhere to be seen! Warm Jets deserves to be higher. I do however agree with the number one placing of Another Green World, definitely my fave Eno album. But the whole article seems pointless, rating Eno's career in such a way gives it no context. I would advise on getting both box sets, and if you've got a multi-disc changer that will hold 6 discs, put them all in and press random. He was 83. Newton, a fashion photographer whose work appeared in magazines such as Playboy, Elle and Vogue, was best known for his stark, black-and-white nude photos. Newton lost control of his Cadillac while leaving the Chateau Marmont hotel in Hollywood and crashed into a wall across the street, said Officer April Harding, a police spokeswoman. Before hitting the wall, the car brushed an Associated Press photographer who was arriving at the hotel on an unrelated assignment. Newton was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, where he died a short time later, Harding said. Newton, who was Jewish, fled Germany for Singapore in December 1938, a month after Nazi-led pogroms. He eventually settled in Australia and became a citizen, then took up residence in Monte Carlo. ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 23 Jan 2004 20:11:11 EST From: KWil632057@aol.com Subject: Re: [AVALON] Helmut Newton RIP Very sad news. I had the great pleasure of interviewing Mr Newton about five years ago (we briefly discussed Ferry and he admitted, unsurprisingly, to liking the Country Life cover best ) and following our chat I decided to ask if he would sign one of his photos for me. Not only did he do so gladly but added 'Mit Besten Guessen' which although my German is poor means 'with best wishes.' He certainly produced many of the best Roxy covers that never were.
