Because it's the emotional nub of Ferry's songs. Your title for this series is superbly apt, because although one may think of Ferry as a writer of love songs, they're almost always about memory of lost love, remembered love, not the present thing. And the present thing tends anyway to be only sex, bodies, not romantic love particularly except to the degree that sex itself is or seems like romance. The public Ferry persona is capable of deep or at least yearning feelings only in remembrance, it sometimes seems. It may be that the persona is in fact too self-absorbed for love, capable only of lust and sating desire. It is easy after all to remember - which can easily mean invent - a romantic glow after the orgasms are done with. I haven't played a note of Ferry in months, so I'm working from memory too. Thanks, Ole, for pointing out Eddie's valuable contributions. I seem to recall within the last week or so a lament about someone sitting on the sidelines when they have so much to offer and my question is, Where are you, Eddie? Arnie P.S. Of course, the violin solo on OOTB has to have the unbelievably energetic bass line to play off to really raise the hairs on the back of my neck. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-avalon@smoe.org [mailto:owner-avalon@smoe.org]On Behalf Of Ole-Petter Drxnen Sent: Saturday, January 17, 2004 8:36 PM To: avalon@smoe.org Subject: [AVALON] More than Bryan...? I was watching the 2001-Roxy-dvd tonight after a nice evening out here on Gran Canary, and I suddenly understood how extremely important Eddie Jobson was! Colin on keyboard & piano + Lucy Wilkins are really working hard filling Eddie's shoes. When you look at old Roxy videos you can see how Eddie runs back and forth from the keyboards to the violin. In 2001 it took 2 persons (+ sometimes 3) to manage to keep up with Eddie. It's really a terrible thing that he has not been credited as a composer of "Out of the blue". Isn't it HIS violin-solo that makes that track so outstanding??? ? Ole Ps Viva Roxy music! ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 19 Jan 2004 17:37:00 -0000 From: "Mandy" Subject: [AVALON] Aberdeen Thanks to Tracy Elliot, I am able to offer 4 copies of the above, plus one to someone unable to re-offer.
