They are keeping their powder dry for their own forthcoming book, already in preparation I'm assured, and said to be no-holds-barred. We'll see. If Puxley's 1976 book is a model, and we consider the delicate sensibilities involved, then I think some element of hagiography will probably be apparent. Can you really see BF opening his heart about Eno, Hall, the band's internal tensions, his marriage, etc, or do any kind of public soul searching? Hmm.. Personally I hope he never does. For me it's the fact that there is an air of mystery about him that makes him more interesting as an artist. There's also a dignity in that. Aren't we all sick of reading what Elton John's boyfriend's cat has for breakfast? Like anyone cares. However I understand these are not the only books about Roxy currently in production. It's rumoured that a well-known music critic, with connections to our own group, has also been engaged on a Roxy project, and I've also heard some anecdotal evidence of a mooted fourth book. Buckley told me his book should follow the pattern of his Bowie book, which was apparently well-received by the notoriously anorak-sic DB crowd. Whilst it won't necessarily have the human story, I imagine it will probably be a well-researched, fairly objective account of the band's career. If the band do get a book out, (and we all know from bitter experience how things in BF-land not only move at glacial speed, but are in constant danger of 180 degree reversal) then I suspect their book and Buckley's together will probably together tell a fairly definitive story.
