["Tracy Elliott" Subject: [AVALON] FM gig????? Hiya, Heard FM gig was a small gathering??? To be honest, I'm definitely not one for tribute bands myself. Can't really see the point in going to see a tribute band when the original artists are still alive and kicking!!!! (and boy can they Kick when they want to). Would rather spend my money on the real thing - if not Roxy Music as such then Bryan Ferry Solo. As an Elvis fan I have had a lot of encounters with impersonators as you may imagine. There can be no substitute for the real thing. We should think ourselves very lucky to be able to see Bryan, and occassionally the other members of Roxy in real life. I never had that opportunity with Elvis. And now...also very sadly and shockingly the loss of Robert Palmer puts things into perspective. Mandy very kindly sent me a sample of FM's work. To be honest (sorry Mandy!!) I have to conclude that, from what I listened to, they are very good at murdering Roxy songs - especially Avalon. Now I know that I am going to be shot down in flames where I sit for this opinion, but I just had say something. Spend your money on the real thing!!! Believe me, you will understand what I mean one day! Manifesto remains my 2nd favourite album.. ..not a popular choice amongst Avalonoians. Ephemeral?? Roxy??? - how could they be so myopic! Just an extra shilling on the annual licence fee and they could have had all the videotape they wanted. Typical establishment (non) thinking though - bet every episode of "Dixon of Dock Green" is sat there gathering dust! Evening all! Bit of an understatement there, I think. What I'd like to hear about is the security guards and stewards to control the masses of fans ..... all 26 of them! Priceless .... for everything else in life there's Mastercard, perhaps they should have flexed their flexible friend and hired a crowd! But on a serious note - I find it difficult to understand how the lead singer of a tribute band doesn't know the difference between the introductions for Virginia Plain and Streetlife and ends up singing the first line to the wrong song???? Anyway, before anyone defends Lee's performance, I am told that he was excellent, just a shame that the band isn't up to his performance level. T - --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
