Okay...I got a bit lost finding my way into M/bro (again), but arrive at about 5.20 pm. I said to someone who worked at the Town Hall "Is he in yet?" - I didn't even need to say Bryan's name and he knew exactly what I meant. He said yes and that he had arrived at about 5.10 (damn! just missed him!!). Anyway, after meeting up with some friends at the door (we were the first ones the!) and a 2 hour wait to get in, we entered an empty hall and rushed for the barrier at the front of the stage - just to the right of Bryan's mic. Ok - perfect spot! The support band was a Canadian Girl and a guy who played guitar. She had a good voice and was very cheering, with the opening words 'he'll be here soon' (knowing we were waiting for Bryan). She did put a lot of feeling into her songs, but was a bit quirky at the same time. I quite enjoyed it actually. Anyway, after about 45 minutes of the crew setting up mics etc for Bryan, it was the moment we had been waiting for. We had Julia on the harp, then out came Bryan - onto the piano with 'The Only Face' - he got a great reception from an already electric crowd. As he sand 'Don't think Twice', he looked a little sombre, then into Carrickfergus and he began to warm up. He got such an applause from the crowd after each song and you could see him smiling more and more on stage - the whole place was alive - a cracking crowd!!! (apart from one metal girl behind me trying to give Bryan a bunch of flowers and constantly shouting his name whe he came to out side of the stage - but never mind - there's always one!). My first highlight of the night was, of course, 'Slave to Love' which I decided to get a little video clip of on my digital camera. Bryan seemed to notice what I was doing and came across the stage and stood right in front of me. He continued singing and then looked directly in my camera. I looked up at him and smiled - he smiled back! - wow! As you can imagine I am in 'daydream mode' whilst writing this review!! So far through (I forget exactly when, but I'm sure someone else will be able to tell you) Bryan apologised for the concert being late (after having to cancel the last one) and said "Better late than never!". At the 'last' song the band left the stage and everyone began stamping their feet and shouting for them to come back. They, of course, came back for a brilliant encore. This was the first time I saw them do 'Wooly Bully' live! I think if it had been in the plan they could have done half a dozen encores and the crowd would have still wanted more! Then after the concert - on to the stage door. I handed Bryan a photograph of me and him taken outside Newcastle City Hall in 2002 (where he was pulling one of his 'attempting to smile but not quite managing it' sort of faces). He said, "look at that face, look at that face". I told him when it was taken. He kindly signed it for me and also by Frantic CD cover. Fantastic!!!! The mad girl I mentioned earlier with the flowers through them in the car when Bryan got in. Poor Bry - ended up with them whether he wanted them or not! Someone said to Bryan how good the concert was and he said that he had really enjoyed it. Anyway - one of the best audiences and one of the most electric concerts I've been to!!! But..be warned if he ever goes there again because the lighting was really bad - his spot light was out at the end of every song, even when he was trying to say something, and there was a light at the back of the stage shining into the audence - which was rigt in my eyes during a couple of songs. You may see this from some of the photographs I took - which I will put online as soon as I can. Anyway, that's my story.... : ) grin, grin, daydream, : ) grin, daydream!!! : ) Tracy _________________________________________________________________ Sign-up for a FREE BT Broadband connection today! http://www.msn.co.uk/specials/btbroadband ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 13 Nov 2003 11:11:57 +0000 From: "Tracy Connell" Subject: Re: [AVALON] Middlesbrough Concert Review As you can imagine I am in 'daydream mode' >whilst writing this review!! ...hence my bad spelling etc! Same songs although they were moved around a little, but it didn't matter in the least. Maybe it's because it's been a while since the last time although there was certainly more energy, more passion, less going through the motions. The Middlesbrough crowd were very enthusiastic, and there was much more interaction with them than of late. Bryan seemed a little tired to begin with but he soon got into the show and was definitely more Bryan than he's been for a long time...... The band enjoyed themselves, backing singers were the best I've heard them. Julia lovely as ever and Louise was more confident, happy and more at home with them than I've seen her. She looked fabulous. Great to meet and re-meet some lovely people. Just a reminder that the social aspect is all part of it. Oh, I almost forgot. Met the band afterwards, got the pics, the autographs etc. The icing on the cake.... Those of you off to Scotland - have a great time. I'm sure you will, even if it's only half as good as last night. Here's to the next time. Subject: [AVALON] Re: Film music of Ferry "Lost in Traslation" a very good film with Bill Murray doing "More Than This".They left it out of the soundtrack & the response for it was so great they had to go back & add it at the end.---- There is a great chance Murray will be up for an oscar & deserving so. "Laurel Canyon" another good art film featured "My Only Love" &" Roxy" & "Ferry was given credit at the end of film. This is out on DVD to rent of buy if you want to check it out.
