If you have the equipment to access the SACD layer on the disc, then it should sound better. Some SACDs are hybrids, meaning you can play it on a regular CD player. SACD only discs can only be played on an SACD or "universal" player. Some SACD discs are multichannel and two channel. I have Frantic on DVD-Audio and Avalon on multichannel SACD. I'm not going to bother with the two channel only versions, preferring the full surround advantage but many prefer strictly two channel. All of my SACD and DVD Audio discs sound superior to the standard CD. However, there has been some criticism about the standard CD layer on some SACD discs, most notably Dark Side of the Moon, which sounds compressed but I think this is a mastering issues vs. a technology issue. Just my thoughts. - --- LINLITHGOWTYRES@BTINTERNET.COM wrote: > Hi All > Just got a copy of Roxy, The Best Of in Super Audio, > SACD. So by Wednesday most likely, we will begin the burning and sharing. In this way, everyone who has replied to someone will get CDs and later in the week, we will be in touch to let people know who is doing what for whom. OK? With so many replies now made directly to authors, and everyone consequently appearing in each other's address books, the risk of infection has been heightened. Outlook automatically adds the e-mail address of anyone that you reply to to your address book unless you specifically tell it not to. Now when one Avalonian gets infected with a polymorphic virus like W32.Sobig.F@mm or Blaster, it is immediately transferred incestuously to many others in the group. When we simply replied via the avalon@smoe.org address this risk was removed, as this was the single point of contact and the list address demimed the offending attachments. Oh, and by coincidence the list was vibrant in those days too... Ironically the list manager now complains that the weight of bounced messages fills her inbox. Funny how autocratic decisions have a habit of rebounding isn't it? This is a dog that's bitten its owner. That said, any Windows user (Macs and Unix boxes and their derivatives like Linux just don't have these problems) who ventures onto the Internet without anti-viral protection is asking for trouble. Beg, steal, borrow, or in case of dire emergency, buy yourself an AV program, and save yourself and everyone else a lot of grief. If you can't afford a commercial product there are a selection of free ones here: http://www.thefreesite.com/Free_Software/Anti_virus_freeware/ If you use Outlook or Outlook Express consider switching off the auto-add feature, and removing any addresses you don't recognise or need from your address book. NEVER open an attachment unless you are 100% sure of its provenance. Thankfully W32.Sobig.F@mm becomes deactivated on the 10th of September. It won't be long before another arrives.
