This is a Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry mailing list. From what I understand, Eno has his own mailing list. Notwithstanding, when there's something Roxy/Ferry related (say, the collaboration on "I Thought") then there's something appropriate for this list. Otherwise, if it's Eno and his thoughts and publications, there's a different, more appropriate forum for it. As for the Bush-bashing and other political fulminations, take it off-list. If there are flame-throwers waiting in the wings, then to paraphrase pretender-in-chief Bush, 'bring 'em on'. However, after reading subsequent posts, I'm not sure if KBP's complaint is with Eno's conclusions or simply with his writing style. In that regard, from my "school of thought"; an issue demands a treatment that effectively communicates the information and/or point of view (regardless of how "serious" the issue is perceived to be) to the intended audience. Personally, I'm grateful to those with the knowledge and ability to "dumb down" any complex issue, so that my feeble mind can grasp the basics and build upon it. I recently read Greg Palast's "Best Democracy Money Can Buy", Pat Buchanan's "Death of the West", Joe Conason's "The Big Lies" and am currently reading "Sacred Rage: The Wrath of Militant Islam" by Robin Cook. And I agree, Eno's article was hardly in depth (but how could it be in that forum?) and I probably won't have run across it were it not linked here, but I obviously agree with his main point (as I understood it). And quite honestly, I believe it was at least commensurate with the treatment of the public by the U.S. administration ... except it wasn't written with chalk a on stone tablet .... "yes sirrre, mr prezident, praise the lord and pass the ammunition ... let's smoke out those evil-doers ... yee-haa!!" James deep in the heart of America, the misguided ps. i apologize if this doesn't make any sense; i was released from the hospital today following my fifth stroke in the last 18 months ... which i'm sure is completely coincidental in terms of the current state of affairs in Washington DC. at any rate, typing is extremely difficult and thinking, more than a bit muddled. but i've yet to be blinded by the right (and yes that is the title of David Brock's book that I stole.) ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 24 Aug 2003 12:55:57 -0400 (EDT) From: Colleen Matan Subject: RE: [AVALON] More Political Observations From Eno On Sun, 24 Aug 2003, Arnold Schulberg wrote: > Okay, here's my two cents. I might not go that far, but I would try not to step on the toes of the Eno list, and I think there are often items of interest re: Eno that do belong here from time to time. I ask folks to please use some judgment about what they post. > As for the Bush-bashing and other political fulminations, take it > off-list. Which I have already asked be done this morning. He performed for amongst others the Queen and Prince Philip. As I have relative who handles the bar on such occasions I was able to sneak, mini disc recorder in hand, into the event. Surprisingly he did a fairly full set with Her Majesty only once stating 'Jealous Guy again? We are not amused. Can't he remember Beauty Queen?' I am able to offer a very limited tree of the show to trade with the first five emailers. I would have thought that this is the only copy of this gig unless Liz wanted a copy to go with her Alphaville and Horoscope cds. Also performing were Grace Jones and Seal.
