Or not. In those 30-plus years of buying concert tickets I've never witnessed ticket prices take a last minute plunge such as in this case. I have seen tickets given away free, a day or two before the event, but that creates a completely different scenario. You already pay a substantial price ... and presumably a fair-market price ... for what, by it's nature is a one-of-a-kind item: a ticket to see that particular band, on that night, in that city. And you already pay a premium price for a "chance" to buy (in theory) the best seat in the house for that show. Unless you're somehow "connected", you have no options. > Our seats for my vacation were $800 each; many people on the plane bought at > the last minute and paid $300. In other words, you're paying for the scheduling assurance and piece of mind by booking in advance, which in many situations, is the only reasonable way to travel. But unlike the concert, you do have options. I haven't payed full price for a flight since the advent of Priceline, and that includes "time sensitive" travel, such as a trip to the Rose Bowl. "Red eye" flights, and lay-overs are the price I pay in order to take the trip. If you're suggesting that high-priced concert tickets will be subject to "sale prices" on an unpredictable basis, then I guess for a lot of us, attending concerts will become a hit-and-miss activity ... and obtaining "good seats", all but an impossibility. > There's no grounds for a lawsuit. "Price Gouging: pricing above the market when no alternative retailer is available." I'm not quite willing to concede the legal issue, although proving it, would be difficult at best. But legal questions aside, I don't believe that music fans should just quietly accept whatever pricing schemes are tossed at us. (the impossible dream: tickets go on sale for a show, and NOBODY buys, until the prices are slashed. sure, then we'll just click our heels and head back home after the show.) The latest news outta the music biz: record companies are starting to restructure their band contracts to get a piece of the profit (tickets/merchandise) earned on tour, to compensate for slumping CD sales. It's gonna get worse. (smog) last Saturday night in Chicago ... a great show for $18. There's always hope. james ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 17 Aug 2003 09:45:25 +0200 From: "Anton van Lammeren" Subject: [AVALON] Late notice: Jimmy - I programmi Today at 13H55 (+ 2 GMT I think) BRYAN FERRY FRANTIC IN TAROUDANT programma di intrattenimento -52 mn. http://www.canaljimmy.it/programmes/index_html?query_start=11 A documentary on Bryan Ferry promoting Frantic.
