Mother of all time-wasters! I love it! I'll even come out of lurk mode to say so . . . Favorite albums? Well, when I heard Avalon when I was a freshman in college, it was so new and cool to me that I played it through the vinyl, had to get another copy. This is for those of you who remember vinyl . . . I think Avalon sounds as good today as it did back then. Except now, I don't have pimples. But count me in amongst those who prefer BF's solo stuff. Maumona is really a together CD, waay funky. I don't hear much mention of Taxi; I always liked that a lot, even played it on my radio show (a funk odyssey thing) quite a bit. Especially "Amazing Grace" - what a cool idea. Wish church was more like that. You may lionize Brian Eno if you want, and sure he is great, but I'm very impressed with Robin Trower's influence! I can't imagine the same guy who rocked like "Day of the Eagle" doing smooth funk well - just goes to show you there are no borders. Lastly, go steal my mp3's! My music project Emerald Soul has a new look to the website and a couple of new mp3's - I'd say there's a touch of an influence in there somewhere - please check the "buzz" section, people are being very nice in their reviews of the album "Another Meaningless Crisis." Enjoy your music! - -Tom http://www.emeraldsoul.com ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 11:17:20 -0400 From: KB Porter Subject: Re: [AVALON] It's the same old story... I just wanted to take a chance and send my first ever post to the group. A certain Miss Lottie asked me if I'd like to join and since then, I've been lurking to get a feel for the group. My name is Lisa and I obviously LOVE Roxy/Bryan. I have to hear them every day. That's my fix. It is the cure for road rage in Washington, DC. Roxy makes me happy and takes me many places...and Bryan, well all you woman know what Bryan does for you, so ditto for me. (What a hot tamale) I just wanted to say to Tom that I checked out the Emerald Soul site, and I loved your comparisons, especially the one where you mention Phish, because, since Phish's birth, I loved them like my own child. I don't have a sound card in my computer at work, but when I get home, I'll have to check out your sound. I guess that's it for now. I loved the chatter going on so far and hopefully, I'll be able to contribute a decent thought or two to this lovely group. ...and thanks again, Lottie, for inviting me! Hugs, ~Lisa ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 01 Jan 1904 03:32:50 +0000 From: martin Subject: [AVALON] new material This fascinates me: A new Roxy album would, presumably, sell millions. The three big lads would trouser huge wads and Paul's "back sky" (as we Geordies say) would be bulging too. And yet, and yet......coming up with new material is clearly so difficult that no-one can do it. And I don't just mean El Ferrari, the Guitarissimo, Eddie Riff and TGPT, but anybody! Because the music biz has thousands of brilliant tunesmiths who can emulate, simulate and synthesize until we don't know whether we're coming or going.......and who could quietly share the spoils in return for lobbing in the tunes.........but, plainly, no-one can do it. Not Eno, not Colin Good, not Chris Thomas, not Tony Visconti, not anyone. Does this say something about the quality of the Roxy songbook?? ___________________________________________________________________________ To unsubscribe, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe avalon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Aug 2003 19:04:54 EDT From: DEAGLERR@aol.com Subject: [AVALON] NY Shows tree Hey Folks I'd like to offer to the list recordings of the two recent New York shows.
